31 and still going strong

October 13, 2006 By Gitr 5 Comments

I got the Buff of the Dragonslayer before logging off Wednesday night, so when I go on last night, I had some major power. I went to Ashenvale and killed Feldemons and the Elementals for a whopping 12 minutes to get my 4k XP to ding 31.

I spent my talent point in Shadow on the Mind Blast cooldown reduction 3/5. K was still over, so I logged off and got on later to see what that dragon buff does with my current equipment and skill.

I have a quest to kill Ambassador Malcin outside of RFD, so I ran down there to see what his level is. I told Aeigelus that I am trying to use Thottbot.com less with Deadr so I actually experience more of the game rather than picking and chosing where to go just to kill something on a map. Gitr still had areas of Winterspring that he hasn’t explored because no quests necessitated it because I knew exactly where to go.

When I got to the ravine by the meeting stone, I was disheartened to see wandering level 33 elites. Geesh! “All the way down here for nothing,” is what I was thinking. Then I wondered exactly how good I am and how good this buff is. The first mob I targeted was a warrior class with no mana. Good. Straight dps. Here is what I did:

Pre-fight:

  • Touch of Weakness
  • Fortitude buff
  • Inner fire buff

Fighting:

  • Holy fire
  • Power Word: Pain
  • Power Word: Shield
  • Mind Blast
  • Corruption
  • Wand

I used the wand until I lost my bubble. I’d bubble, Renew, and wand again until he lost Pain. I re-cast Pain and continued bubbling and wanding him to death. Now, if I’m correct, this is more XP for a single kill than I have received since the 50s with Gitr, and I’m fairly certain that grinding at 59 with him against 59s and 60s was only 500 XP without rest, and 1000 XP with rest. That, folks, is how a level 31 priest can take down a level 33 elite.

I was not as lucky with the level 34 elite mana mobs. Darn things kept healing themselves back up to 45-60% and entangling me with roots. I’ll have to get Malcin with a partner, I guess. One tank will do. I think I know where I can find one. :)ร‚ย Hey, Abull!!

That’s awesome man. Sounds like a ton of fun figuring out what you can and can’t solo. Makes the whole leveling aspect a lot more fun. You are flying through these levels ๐Ÿ™‚ Hopefully, you will be 50+ soon, and we can run through DM, Scholo, Strat as a group.

I really wouldn’t count on it any time soon, Josh. Part of our getting used to being married will be figuring out how much “alone time” I need. I’m an only child and an introvert to boot. As an introvert, conversation and being around people is not relaxing, while reading and geeking on the computer and watching TV recharges my batteries for the next day.

I think after next weekend, we’ll be looking at half-hour or hour-long sessions “most” evenings. Even after I hit those higher levels, I am not sure at this point if playing for a 2 or 3 hour chunk because I want to play a dungeon is really realistic unless she is busy doing something that takes equally long without me.

I’m really pumped about getting married, but my whole life is about to change, and I’m just not sure where WoW fits into it yet, because I’m not there yet. It is just a game, so I don’t need it, and I’ve proven it. However, if given a choice of things to do to recharge my batteries, it’s at the top of my list along with grabbing my Clive Cussler books and sitting in my high-back leather reading chair from Pier One Imports.

Marriage is a big adjustment, I’ll tell you right now. I too am a major introvert and balancing my need to be alone with my wife’s need to be around me is an every day challenge. But the rewards far outweigh anything else.

If you don’t already have a laptop that can play WoW, get one. Being able to sit on the couch with your wife and play WoW while she watches TV goes a long way towards making everyone happy. But yes, you have to turn WoW off occasionally… Or get her an account and have a toon that you only play with her. Then you’re doing something together and geeking out. It’s a magical combination.

Regarding the mobs with mana. Mana burn FTW!

The laptop thing kind of works. There are times where being in the same room is what she needs, but sometimes we actually need to be enjoying the same thing. It will be a fun process. As far as playing together, she thinks the game is way too cartoonish. Now, later on there may be a possibility of playing that game I highlighted for release soon *brain fart* because it looks more realistic. She’s really not into computer games, though.

How long have you been married and do you have kids thrown into the mix yet to make time management really interesting?

Been married for 3 years this month. Have a 1 year old son. That really does cut into WoW time, but it doesn’t really feel like you’re ‘missing’ anything. I get an hour or so in after work and then usually two-three hours after my wife and son go to bed. Get a fair amount on the weekend.

And yes, doing things together is more important than just ‘being there’.

Has she tried the Sims games? My wife enjoys those a great deal, though most other games are pretty ‘meh’ in her opinion. I think she mostly plays WoW with me to be a part of something I enjoy, much as I’ll tag along with her for something she wants to do. It goes both ways.
