I’m downright confused about weapon damage now. I thought I had it all figured out after the Character DPS information confirmed what my DPS would be, but it was WRONG! I’ve asked before, and been told that wands were called “white damage” and are unaffected by + gear. I wanted a Shadow Wrath wand anyway, because that would require a mob to have Shadow Resist to lessen its effect.
The wand in question is the Umbral Wand of Shadow Wrath. It has +9 Shadow Spell Damage, which I know won’t affect my wand damage, but it is a Shadow Damage wand, so my gear with + Magical Spells and Effects gives it a +100 damage. My confusion arose out of this information:
I should be doing some friggin’ awesome damage with this wand, but what am I doing? 54-104(crit) on like-level mobs. That’s it. I’m glad I only spent 3g on the wand, but why the false information? I almost wet myself when I saw the damage I was going to do at level 40, and then to fly all the way to Grom’gol, ride down to the Jungle Stalkers, and hit the first one with a 62, I gasped. Good thing I didn’t go find a level 50 to pick a fight with.
First of all, the Shadow Wrath suffix does nothing against resistances. It increases the damage of your shadow spells, but does not prevent your target from resisting your spells at all. Secondly, spell damage does not affect wands at all. Spell damage affects only your spells. This is simply a display bug. It is a known bug, but since the statistic screens will receive major changes, there’s no point in fixing it now.
Hmmm…bugs suck. I did notice that the +9 Shadow Spells did add a little more frequent crit in the 500HP range for my Mind Blast spell. That’s a nice way to start out a fight with a 1800HP beast.
So, my hopes of having something that will increase the damage that any of my wands do is hopeless, aside from a +Damage enchant? My goal is to do more damage without using mana-sapping spells. I want unlimited damage. ๐ Don’t we all?
