I got the itch for playing a hunter again. I will be concentrating on leveling Deadr to 60 for the expansion, but I really wanted to make sure I could get the name reserved that I wanted. I researched the racial abilites and had a really hard time deciding between an orc and a troll. I must have debated for a full 2 minutes with myself. 🙂 I went back to the Priest’s Haven to research because I knew they had comments on the racial abilities.
I settled on a troll because of four things, rather than the two positives I saw in orcs.
Orcs:
- Pet melee damage increase.
- Axe specialization.
Trolls:
- Regeneration- Increases health regeneration by 10% and also works in combat (normal regeneration works off the 5-second rule).
- Beast Slaying- 5% damage bonus against beasts. In many ways, this equates to a 5% experience bonus if you choose your hunting grounds with this ability in mind.
- Berserking- Activate when “Wounded” to increase melee and spellcasting speed by 25% – lasts 20 sec – 2 min cool-down. This ability seems good in theory, but in practice you are rarely thinking about it when you are “wounded” which I believe means you are below 20% of your health.
- Trolls now also receive a bonus to Bow weapons in addition to Throwing weapons. (new in 1.9)
You missed probably THE most important racial. Orcs get Blood Fury. A 2 minute cooldown Attack Power bonus. It’s basically a free trinket 🙂
You also missed:
“25% resistance to stun and knockout effects.”
1 in 4 chance of resisting stun in PvP is the reason I picked Orc. Blood Fury is also way overpowered once you’re 60 and geared.
Serpent – Stormscale
I have a 55 Tauren hunter, which I wish now I would have rolled a troll hunter. I just might start over with her, hunters are fun.
