A Look at Aldor vs Scryer Allegiance Dilemmas

February 7, 2007 By Gitr 15 Comments

Once you venture into Shattrath City, which there really isn’t any reason why you can’t make the journey at level 60, you will be presented with a choice of picking what side to ally with. If you are like I was, you will have several questions right off the bat when you get the option. I am going to attempt to clear up the muddy water.

You are directed upon finding the city to go to the city center. After that, you speak with Khadgar, who was very close to Midvh (Read more at Know Your Lore: Medivh). His summoned pet gives you a tour and history of the city, which is easy XP, even if it’s a mindless 5 minutes.

Getting back to Khadgar, he makes you chose your allegiance, either to the Scryers or Aldors.

What delayed my decision was this list of questions:

  1. Can you change your mind?
    • No. Yes, but it is a HUGE pain.
  2. Is one side for Horde and one for Alliance?
    • No.
  3. Is one side more or less for my class or build?
    • YES!

Now that my curiosity and hesitance was taken care of, I chose to ally with the Aldors as an uber-damage Shadow Priest. I love healing, but have recently found the healing ability of a priest that does damage. The more damage I do, the more healing I do. I’ll write more on that later, so on with the topic.

WoWwiki.com thankfully had all the rewards listed with a take on their interpretation. Here is one of the tables you can find there:

Aldor Scryer
Sword rogues, DPS warriors, Hunters, and Feral druids (shoulder enchants) Dagger rogues
DPS warriors Tanks
Healers (especially tailors) Healers (with staff proficiency)
Magic damage dealers (slight PvE bias) Magic damage dealers (slight PvP bias)
Players seeking PvE shoulder enchants Players seeking PvP shoulder enchants
Crafters wishing to make Fire Resistance armor Crafters wishing to make Arcane Resistance armor
Jewelcrafters wishing to make Shadow Resistance armor Jewelcrafters wishing to make Nature Resistance armor
Moonkin druids with intellect need Alchemists, especially ones that want to create fire damage potions

I HATE making unchangable decisions in this game…BAH! Oh well. I scanned through all of the rewards and picked the side that I liked the gear the most. I know I could take a lot of flak for picking the “wrong” side for what I wanted, but I’m sure that they purposefully made a lot of the gear overlap so it’s no devastating to those who picked without knowledge of the rewards.

Here are the things that swayed me to Aldor:

Golden Spellthread, Greater Inscription of Faith, and the big daddy on the list:

Auchenai Staff
Binds when picked up
Unique
Two-Hand Staff
92 – 172 Damage Speed 2.10
(62.8 damage per second)
+46 Intellect
Requires Level 70
Requires The Aldor – Revered
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 19.
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 26.
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 121.

Thanks for the list Gitr. Now here is my other dilemma for when I get to that level should I respec back to Tank or stick to DPS. I will tell you this Grinding is much easier as a DPS Warrior.

I will be keeping Gitr as Fury and Arms for leveling, although you can really help yourself out by running the instances over and over again. It is really nice XP and the gear really helps.

Tell you what, I might respec to Prot for a level, then get all the gear to improve my damage, and respec again.

Money is so easy to come by now, it’s hard not to. 50g, even once you hit the max, is not really much. 10 green drops or a few stacks of vendor trash.

Man I would love to run instances over and over again but the job and wife cut into the playing time.

I know what you mean about the job. I have been working 45-55 hours/wk to get out of debt and stuff. (Paying off the car in full on the 2nd) I kept coming home at 3:00 to play before K got off work at 5:00 so I was rested and in the right frame of mind to be a wonderful husband.

It seems to be working and she is still amazed at how many hours I’m bringing hom on the paycheck getting off earlier than her. ๐Ÿ™‚ It adds up with shorter lunches and going in earlier.

I can’t wait for vacation in Canada next month. We’ll really deserve the time off to sleep in every morning.

I don’t think it’s unchangeable. I’m running Aldor, and there’s a Scryer quest dealing with basilisk eyes that I can do to increase my Scryer rep.

I think that pertains to your alignment within the City itself. You know, you immediately gain rep with one faction and hatred with the other, so I don’t think it means you can’t run the other’s quests, but that you can’t be in positive standing with both.

Anyone have anything definitive on this?

I think you are right it makes sense that you can’t be positive with both factions since they hate eachother.

    Hey Gitr,

You can change your faction by doing a quest with the scryers. Lets say you hit exalted and buy all the Aldor items you want you can then do scryer quest that will bring you to neutral. Once neutral that quest goes away then you can talk to the Scryers and start handing in items for rep and quest again.

But take notice that they both do sell their own seperate enchants and may suck if you get a real nice tier set and cant buy that added head slot or shoulder slot item with that holy dust.

But for the most part you can do it either way and get what you want out of it and switch later so don’t be worried their is hope but just takes long.

    Good luck

You can change, but trust me. You don’t want to take the effort to do it. I switched from Scryer to Aldor. It took about 12 hours of farming Spiders. Then I had to farm like 360 marks to get to honored. Nice grinding but man oh man, the hours I spent doing it!
