Preparation for Entering The Slave Pens

February 8, 2007 By Gitr 8 Comments

I am going to hit 62 tonight, so I’m preparing myself for entering The Slave Pens, per guild requirements of knowing what you are getting into when entering an instance. I really enjoy the runs more now that I research them first because I know what is coming and can respond with ease instead of being caught off guard. I will be adding pictures of the instance once I go there and keep this as a long-term guide.

The Slave Pens is located in Zangarmarsh in the center of Coilfang Reservoir. It is meant for levels 62-64 and is a 5-man instance. You should bring along some crowd control races and a Shadow Priest is quite handy during the Rokmar fight when he blasts the party with an AOE lightning effect.

Down to the details:

There are more group pulls of more dangerous trash mobs than in the previous instances of Outlands. The Naga have healers that need to be taken out quickly, and others have AOE and single-target fears, creating the potential for wipes.

Turn right to go fight Mennu the Betrayer first. Things to note about this fight: he drops totems, his spells are uninterruptable, his fire nova does 2.5k damage, and he resists stuns. Sounds like fun. Here is what I want from him:

Skethyl Legwraps
Binds when picked up
Legs Cloth
110 Armor
+18 Stamina
+28 Intellect
+12 Spirit
Durability 65 / 65
Requires Level 62
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 18.
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 33.
Item Level 91

Time to go take on Rokmar the Crackler. Now it’s time to really love being a Shadow Priest. Rokmar sends out a Lightning Bolt to everyone that deals 2k damage EACH. Time to lay down Vampiric Embrace and start dpsing the crap out of him. He also has an ensnare and gives the tank a wound that hits for 800 points per tick. I want two things from him:

Calming Spore Reed
Binds when picked up
Wand
108-202 Frost Damage Speed 1.60
(96.9 damage per second)
+8 Intellect
+9 Spirit
Durability 65 / 65
Requires Level 62
Equip: Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 20.
Item Level 91
Coilfang Hammer of Renewal
Binds when picked up
Main Hand Mace
59 – 139 Damage Speed 2.40
(41.4 damage per second)
+10 Stamina
+13 Intellect
+12 Spirit
Durability 90 / 90
Requires Level 62
Equip: Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 106.
Item Level 91

For the last boss, Quagmirran, I’ll get to take care of more AOE/DOT damage. He has a 2.5k AOE Poison and a 2k DOT that Shadow Priests will need to take care of. Someone needs to take care of debuffing his DOT, and he needs to be taken down quickly or you will run out of mana with him dealing that much damage. Finally a good cloak:

Spore-Soaked Vaneer
Binds when picked up
Back
63 Armor
+15 Stamina
+15 Intellect
Requires Level 62
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 11.
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 19.

hey dude – sites looking good these days. Good luck on hitting 62! I’ve shelved my 60’s for the moment – kinda tired of playing them and tired of playing Alliance. I ran a Tauren Warrior up to 60 a while back and am doing the sheep thing and playing a Blood Elf pally at the moment.

Catch ya later – drop a line when you can.

Hey Tomas!!! Glad to hear you’re okay…no updates on your blog. I was starting to wonder if you stopped blogging or playing.

I dinged before dinner before we left for our appointment. I got Shadow Word: Death!
