American Idol Is Crack on TV

February 28, 2007 By Gitr 16 Comments

That’s become one of my sayings lately. I have never watched an entire season of American Idol before. I’ve seen the beginning a couple of times, the middle once or twice, and the final 4-6 probably 3 times. I’ve seen every minute of the show this year and I’m loving it. I’m still enthralled with the “making a success” idea and it’s cool to see these people becoming successful. No matter what happens at this point, none of their lives will be the same after this because they have had way over 15 minutes of fame.

I REALLY liked the gas station attendant and Sundance Head from the try-outs and was supremely pissed that they had to face off together as the 12th man at the end of Hollywood week. To make matters worse, I didn’t think Sundance did well after his initial audition, either, so seeing the gas guy go was bothering me.

Until last night.

I started watching the show in the living room on our small HDTV (I think it’s 26″) with the sound going through the stereo so I could put it mainly out of the center channel because my wife wasn’t feeling good after work and stayed in bed after dinner. Making out the intonations was hard without the music blasting, especially out of the subwoofer.

What’s a good husband to do? Move the show into the office. I sacrificed my total involvement in the show to split my time between leveling Bloodr and listening to Idol. I’d watch the dedications and listen the the singing. If the voice stood out, I turned and gave it my full attention. I feel sorry for Sanjaya, but that’s another story.

I really don’t like the Justin Timberlake look-alike from last week because he was too herky-jerky. So when he started out last night, I turned and looked to see him doing it again, and the music had the same feel to it. I blew it off after 30 seconds and turned back to WoW.

When Simon said that he was out to win the competition with a performance like that (beat-boxer dude was MUCH better IMO), I think I soiled my armor (1 Netherweave Bag to the first person who names that reference).

I turned back to watch Sundance’s dedication (awww) and was immediately stuck watching his performance of a lifetime. The dude brought down the house like LaKisha did on Wednesday last week. Before his song, I was sure this year’s winner was going to be one of the 3 kick-butt black women with it being LaKisha’s to lose. Now, I’m not so sure. I think he could do something with his facial hair to better match his style, which better suited his initial audition’s song.

Are any of you watching and have your $0.02 to put in?

I’ll be on tonight after another riviting show. I’ll bet LaKisha blows them away. I’m convinced that they save the best performace for last, take a guess at a good opener, and try to make 2nd and 3rd from last pretty good shows based on the songs.

My guess is that she will be last in the initial presentation of the contestants again. Sundance was, and she was last week for the introductions.

After tonight, I’m giving my prediction on the 4 getting booted.

You’re on! Predictions after tonight’s show.
I’m stuck on the guys so far, I think there’s too much chafe(sp?) that needs to be separated from the wheat. The beat box guy has impressed me, Timberlake impersonator isn’t my kind of thing and I’m not sold on Sundance yet (only 2 decent performances?). Other than that there hasn’t yet been any stand outs for me.
Now the gals, there’s definitely some variety and quality in there and I think it’s gonna be harder to whittle that group down….. maybe they can do a Survivor shake up moment and change up the rules and say “you guys were pretty crap so rather than let a decent girl go we figured your vote total was less than theirs, you’re going home!” lol

A rule change would also be so totally Beauty and the Geek…let’s see…let’s have everyone who was sent to the challenge room before decide who wins. That was totally justice. I was jumping up and down on the couch with excitement when I saw Cici’s face when they announced that.

I’d be all for: “Um, you guys clearly suck compared to those three girls, so you can all pack your bags and we’ll bring Daughtry back to show you what a competition is all about.” The only previous contestant that I gave a rip about was him.

    Mind, don’t be hatin!! lol
Some of us aren’t lucky enough to play Warcrack with our wives and so we have to do our husbandly duty. Besides, I enjoy music and competition, put it together and it’s TVCrack. Reality tv though is one of those things, you’re either in to it or not.
You just wish that Snow let you get your Idolcrack on. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh no not getting my ass to watch any more TV then is ABSOLUTLY NESSESARY. We have not hade cable tv for almost 4 years. At first it was choice(no money) after a few months I realized there wasnt a single TV show I was interested in. SO we decided to not get cable for a long while. How ever my wife has found that certain shows are presented with minimal commercials, Online at the networks website. So she has gotten me into Brothers and Sisters, Heroes, Armed an Famous(The Only real tv I can stomach)and Ugly Betty. These to me represent a nice collection and Phenominal writing. SO she gets me to veg out in front of the puter once or twice a week. Can’t stand that I can’t change the camera angles to get a better view….wheres my eviserate macro!!!

The only TV shows I watch “live” are Heroes and Survivor. Everything else I grab on DVD.
