American Idol Is Crack on TV

February 28, 2007 By Gitr 16 Comments

That’s become one of my sayings lately. I have never watched an entire season of American Idol before. I’ve seen the beginning a couple of times, the middle once or twice, and the final 4-6 probably 3 times. I’ve seen every minute of the show this year and I’m loving it. I’m still enthralled with the “making a success” idea and it’s cool to see these people becoming successful. No matter what happens at this point, none of their lives will be the same after this because they have had way over 15 minutes of fame.

I REALLY liked the gas station attendant and Sundance Head from the try-outs and was supremely pissed that they had to face off together as the 12th man at the end of Hollywood week. To make matters worse, I didn’t think Sundance did well after his initial audition, either, so seeing the gas guy go was bothering me.

Until last night.

I started watching the show in the living room on our small HDTV (I think it’s 26″) with the sound going through the stereo so I could put it mainly out of the center channel because my wife wasn’t feeling good after work and stayed in bed after dinner. Making out the intonations was hard without the music blasting, especially out of the subwoofer.

What’s a good husband to do? Move the show into the office. I sacrificed my total involvement in the show to split my time between leveling Bloodr and listening to Idol. I’d watch the dedications and listen the the singing. If the voice stood out, I turned and gave it my full attention. I feel sorry for Sanjaya, but that’s another story.

I really don’t like the Justin Timberlake look-alike from last week because he was too herky-jerky. So when he started out last night, I turned and looked to see him doing it again, and the music had the same feel to it. I blew it off after 30 seconds and turned back to WoW.

When Simon said that he was out to win the competition with a performance like that (beat-boxer dude was MUCH better IMO), I think I soiled my armor (1 Netherweave Bag to the first person who names that reference).

I turned back to watch Sundance’s dedication (awww) and was immediately stuck watching his performance of a lifetime. The dude brought down the house like LaKisha did on Wednesday last week. Before his song, I was sure this year’s winner was going to be one of the 3 kick-butt black women with it being LaKisha’s to lose. Now, I’m not so sure. I think he could do something with his facial hair to better match his style, which better suited his initial audition’s song.

Are any of you watching and have your $0.02 to put in?

WoW. Mein own husband bagging on Desperate house Wives. Let me key you boys in on a secret… He sees that I am watching it… “OH GAWD” Excapes his lip..but not in a good way more like a mocking not this carp again way. Meanwhile he walks back and forth like a little lost puppy, that being because I have to watch the streaming t.v. on his computer and then slowly he starts with the… “What the?”… and then a “Oh my Gawd”… Only this time it is genuine. He acts bored and like he doesn’t want to know but sits quietly and listens intently as I explain the whole story line to him. So as far as the whole Idol addiction goes… May the heavens open and swallow you all whole. I hate that show. But I guess someone has to do it. Oh yeah.. don’t tell Mind I told you about his watching Desperate Housewives.. or LOST… he drops in on that one too.

(also he used to watch Passions daily right after his son was born.. until Cheridan died and was under water for like a week and then *POOF* all soap opera like shes magikly alive. Just thought you should have some ammo.)

Heroes ah that seems a great show…only seem first episode online…don’t have scifi channel so have to wait for BBC2 to start showing it soon.

I thought they could have made the first episode a double length one..a little too much crammed into the 1st hour I thought.

Lies all lies. As for the watching passions,I was unemployed and injured with no control over the TV. Hoe got me hooked cuz she HAD to watch it. Me being a wuss and under the influence of drugs had no choice.

And that was just wrong what they did to cheridan no joke that was carp . Taking her kid, shooting her, drowning her for almost 96 hours. Thats just wrong yall.
And I will refuse to watch lost and ‘wives since that carp is lower then dirty diapers on my list of thing to do.

I Agree Heroes FTW. That show is awesome, how awesome you may ask? Let me tell you my wife hates Sci-Fi books and movies and games, calls me a huge nerd for playing WoW and Zelda, refused to watch any of the X-Men, and Matrix but watches Heroes every monday. Now for the dirt on myself I religiously watch not only Desperate Housewives weekly but I also indulge in the weekly watching of Grey’s Anatomy but Idol is the worst show, Sorry Gitr cant agree with you on that one.

I am hooked on very few shows at this point, as far as currently produced shows go. We have House M.D., Monk, Idol, and Home Makeover: Extreme Edition as our weekly staple.

We got DVR through our cable company last month and we tape What Not To Wear, Futurcars, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, and Reba on a pretty consistent basis. We used to watch Seinfeld and Raymond every night, but that started getting old.
