Going Dual-screen

March 5, 2007 By Gitr 26 Comments

I hooked up my second monitor yesterday after my wife went to bed to test out playing with 2 monitors and putting the non-essential info on theย side monitor. I like it! I like it a LOT! Next up is a serious upgrade, because my framerate took a big hit (about half) in the name of a clear playing area.

Warning, this full-size image is 250k if you’re on dial-up.

I’m so glad I don’t have to mess with that many buttons. I use just a few skills depending on fight composition. All needed skills fit in just the standard UI. Hell 98% of my 2 default right side bars are full of /gchat, /generalchat, and /yell emote macros.

There are tears in my eyes, both out of beauty and awe… I am going to jump Mindkiller and put him in a dumpster behind Chucky Cheese and jack his monitor. I will ask you later how to hook it up. =) N don’t have pitty for him, I am sure that he was thinking of trying the same thing the week that I will be bed ridden after my surgery.

    ROFLOL! SNORK!

Geeks will be geeks. He’s a Gitr wanna be, huh? I’ll give details after the deed is done. You could play on a laptop in bed with a monitor on the nightstand. ๐Ÿ™‚

huhn – I didn’t realize you could span the monitors like that…(evil thoughts begin to coalesce)

The main reason I wanted to span was the nice questlog mod from FuBar that puts nice colors on them and makes them clickable as I run through them. I really like being able to click it as I progress to remind myself where to turn it in, etc. instead of having to search for the quest in the default log.

Eventually, this thing was expanded clear down to my chat window and was interfering with my bags window when I’d open it up. More than once I got blindsided by something on the right side that I couldn’t see because of the quests, and that just plain sucks.

It will be a few months until I can get an upgrade, but when I do, you can bet I’ll be posting more screenshots than ever before. We need to make our final payment on our wedding album when it comes in (any day now) and then I’m buying a few necessities first.

So the evil that lurks in the minds of men also lurks in the minds of….ahem woman. I will be sleeping light from now on you treacherous wench. Lets just see how hostile you are when you are bed ridden and in need of….hehehe painkillers. Turnabout is fair play and I play DIRTY.

Hmmm dual monitors….lets see i could move this here…and this here. Might work hehehe.

I wish I had the machine to handle that and also the money to afford the machine to handle that. But unfortunately even if i could i would get so much Wife Aggro it alone would kill me.

I am running at 12fps in world play, and probably much less in instances. There was a sacrifice for this. ๐Ÿ™

I just wanted an extended desktop over two monitors so I could keep Cartographe* open in one and WoW open on another. But my current card, ATI Radeon X700 PCI-Express doesn’t support it. It’ll support spanned … Hmmm, there might be value to be had afterall! I didn’t think to set the viewport up like you did. I’m checking this out.
