American Idol Predictions: Week 2 Final 11

March 21, 2007 By Gitr 11 Comments

I’ve never yelled at the TV so much in my life. It was hot. It was good. It was bad. It was a complete breakdown of the very fibers that make us human at one point. This is set to be the biggest rant against Sanjaya ever.

First, the recap:

Haley Scarnato:
HOT! As Simon said, “I think people will be talking about more than your singing.” She was wearing high shorts, a backless top that must have been hairsprayed on her chest to avoid a malfunction Superbowl-style. Her singing was good, to boot. She picked a great song for her, delivered, and worked it to her advantage. Good opening for the night.

Chris Richardson:
Why do the judges still like him? Every song is the same. He has the same whispy stupid tone and brought out the guitarist to sit with him as he sang. I think that was to draw attention away from his performance because the the music as far better than the singing. It was painful, but I don’t think it was enough to get non-voted.

Stephanie Edwards:
Same thing as last week: her singing was fine, but I can’t remember what she sang or anything about what the judges said. It was just plain “meh” for me.

Blake Lewis:
Is there any song that he can’t update and totally rock out? Regardless of being able to sell CDs, he can go perform anywhere on any given day with talent like that. His moves are smooth and his singing is spot on.

LaKisha Jones:
It wasn’t her best performance. In fact, I’d say the delivery was her worst since Hollywood Week. Granted, there was nothing wrong with her outfit (all $1 million in diamonds) or her singing, but the song choice didn’t do anything for her. I just couldn’t get over that she shouldn’t be singing that song because it didn’t match her personality.

Phil Stacey:
It looks like I might be right again. His vocals were weak and the judges were not impressed. I think he’s going to have a hard time getting enough votes. It was just a very mundane performance of Tobacco Road and it didn’t suit him at all.

Jordin Sparks:
Give this girl an evening out on the town. She sang an absolutely depressing song about not having a guy(which she doesn’t) and delivered it perfectly. It was totally believable and it made Simon “want to go jump off a bridge.” Pretty funny comment about selling the song, but once he explained it as a compliment, everyone cheered.

Sanjaya Malakar:
I’m…I’m…I’m speechless. I was yelling, screaming, laughing, coughing, and in utter disbelief that I saw that on national television in glorious HD with surround sound. It was almost too much to bear. When the show opened, he waved to the camera and we all saw his sleeves of his sweater went to the middle of his fingers and there was a hole for his thumb! It was sooo stupid-looking.

When he came out singing You Really Got Me and the lights started flashing and he came out yelling the song, I almost lost it. About 10 seconds into his performance, the funniest thing in recent TV history happened: they showed a girl of about 12 with blonde pigtails crying in complete adoration of this freak on the stage. It was a total Beetles moment with girls crying and swooning. It was at that moment that I lost complete control of my laughing and coughing mechanisms. One more look at the girl started it all over again. Sanjaya was completely unaware that this was not him, the singing sucked, and that the whole thing was just wrong.

In the end, Randy liked it, Paula said it was a huge improvement, and Simon said that “the little girl’s face says it all.” The camera went back to her for about the 5th time and because Simon is emotionally and interpersonally stupid, Ryan had to inform him that she was crying (with a dreadful look on her face) because she liked it a lot. She turned out to be named Ashley andย got a hug from Sanjaya right then and there and got invited up onto the stage at the end of the show to meet everyone. The floodgates of tears started all over again.

Gina Glocksen:
It wasn’t all that good. It was really her genre, but she didn’t deliver. She might be in trouble. I really like having her as a rocker, but this is clearly not going to be the year of the rocker like it should have been last year with Chris Daughtry.

Chris Sligh:
Chubby is definitely in. America is just eating up his smooth voice and his constantly improving performances. He totally worked the crowd and even poked Simon with the mic stand.

Melinda Doolittle:
She can sing anything and make a story out of it. She had an intro, mundanely perfect verse, and then drew it into a resolved crecendo and gut-busting forte that was impeccably precise and controlled. Give this woman a contract.

It’s a close call between Gina, Chris R., and Phil. I want to see Sanjaya Malakar get the boot, but there is a campaign by Howard Stern and a bunch of idiots to vote for the worst singers. If it wasn’t for that, his hair, and stupid girls like Ashley, he’d be gone. Hands down.

Final Verdict: Phil Stacey.

You see this is why this show is the antichrist…..the emotions you were subjected too are dangerous and ead to….pop thinking…shiver.

Though my wife did something pretty evil last night. I came home and she was watching the new episode of ….duhn dun duhhhhh…Dancing With The Stars…..aaaaahhhhh mmmmaannn!!

I got sucked into it only becuase I actually knew some of the people performing. It was ok…I don’t think I can watch this type of show consistantly though. I don’t take criticisim well toward myself, listening to others get it earned or not just doesn’t do it for me.

No way Mind! You are hereby banned from any negative Idol comments after your Dancing with the Stars escapade. Suuuuuurre Snow had it on when you got home, and you just happened to get stuck in to it /wink /wink /nudge /nudge. The truth of your closet dancing aspirations are finally revealed.

I agree. I shouldn’t have been writing my new post and paid attention to my new mail indicating MK has gone off the deep end. In fact, no more negative comments about anything TV-related after that muck!

*rolls eyes at his pitiful situation*

Glad we could run last night. It was fun to get you some nice rep. I’m sorry I was so tired, but it was a long day involving leaving work to drive to get our wedding album, going to the in-laws to show it off to them and my parents, having a cookout to celebrate it and our 5-month anniversary, and watching Idol and driving home when it was over. Up at 4:30, down at 11:30 makes for a loooong day. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll catch you tonight if you’re on before Bloodr dings 28. Otherwise, there’s always our new chat channel.

Another great review of what I think was the best show so far this season of Idol. Even Sanjaya was entertaining by virtue of that girl sobbing and epitomising the British pop invasion which I’m sure is why the camera was on her as much as it was on the tryhard half-Indian(?) Michael Jackson.
Performance of the night for me was definitely Jordin Sparks, it was like she had a Melinda Doolittle moment where she belted it out of the park in a surreal performance. What surprised me also was the crowd “felt” it and cheered her on even though it was a depressing kind of song.
Haley, wow hot pants FTW!!!! Voted for her this week simply in the hopes of more hotpants :p Chris Timberlake is actually in trouble this week I think. As I’ve said before I’m a big beleiver that you’re handicapped if you sing early in the show, and unless you truly standout you risk being forgotten (a la Stephanie, I agree she didn’t do enough either). Hearing the judges for Backstreet bhoy though I didn’t understand who they were listening to. And to make it worse for the early singers this week, was it just me or was the Mic volume turned down until Sanjackson’s performance? It seemed like the band/music was too high or the mic too low and then he got on and he definitely doesn’t have a powerful voice and it was fixed ๐Ÿ™
Blake, simply fantastic and also got a vote from me. LaKisha can and will do better, this week she just wanted to wear the bling. Chris did a good performance, although I found it funny when he was walking through the crowd and you could tell it got to him once every grandmother and boyfriend in the crowd was puttin their hand in front of him, he wasn’t comfortable with it yet. Another fantastic week from Melinda and that’s what we’re expecting from her now, she’s one of the contestants I think that’s in the driving position of “theirs to lose”, I love her consistency.
Gina, Gina, Gina. Before the break when Seacrest said she was doing a Stones song I told my wife I hoped it was Paint it Black, one of my favorite songs, and I could picture her giving it a good rockin spin. While I voted for her, after listening to it again I think I did so more for the song than the singing. I hope she does well, but like I told my wife she isn’t/hasn’t claimed a spot in the top eschelon of contestants this year but Blake and her are almost the only two to offer something different so I’d like her to go a lil further. Who knows, she mentioned blogs, maybe she’s readin AND a wowcrack fan!
Gitr, like you I’m stickin with Phil to go, although it wasn’t his worst, it was a song I wasn’t familiar with and I think he would have done better with a more popular song, he didn’t do anything spectacular with it and then got crucified by the judges. I think you’ve been spot on with your analysis and predictions. At this point mate, either the Idol producers are reading your blog and predictions and helping America realize that you are the voice of reason, or you ARE an Idol producer…. /spooky

What happens if I just so happen to put it down next week that Melinda’s going to have a rough go? Hmmmm…the power… ๐Ÿ™‚
