Humar the Pridelord? Yeah, I Got Him.

March 23, 2007 By Gitr 12 Comments

I took Tomas’ tip yesterday to look for Humar the Pridelord. It was about 9:45 server time when I made my way to Ratchet from Crossroads and looked for him. The coords were right, but there were only a ton of Patriarch, Lionesses, and Cubs around the big tree. Not to be dismayed, I figured that I would log out right there and come back every time I logged in to see if Humar is there, since I am sticking to leveling Deadr for a while.

For those who don’t know where to find this magnificant beast (which I am going out on a limb and saying he’s the best cat until you can get King Bagthera), I can tell you exactly where he is. When you fly or ship into Ratchet, take the road West toward Crossroads. Just after the buildings of town, head to the right to run along the plateau wall on the North side of the road. After a hundred yards or so is one way to the top. You can see a HUGE tree with a trunk about 50 feet in diameter with about 20 lions of various types wandering and resting. He should be under there if he is spawned. Reports vary, but is is safe to say he has a 12 hour timer.

I logged in this morning at 4:00am server time, took one look, and this is what I saw:

Not the best view, but it was good enough for me to see that there was a black lion in their midst, and lo…his name was Humar the Pridelord. I read account after account on Allakhazam about people camping for days and weeks for him to show up. Tomas said he even waited for days. I tried twice, with no waiting. I was so happy. *Editor’s note: “I get very sad getting so happy from a game. It’s not real. What is wrong with me? You pitiful, pitiful man. Get a life… /slap… YAY!!! I FOUND HUMAR!!!!*

I crept around the pride because I was pet-less and didn’t really want to slap the kitties silly. It just wouldn’t be fair to hack away a level 17 kitty with my enchanted axes when I would have a big, fierce king lion to do it for me soon.

Never having learned my lesson before, I finally used an Freezing Trap when I tamed him. It worked like a charm! It’s brilliant! I was all the way to about 5 seconds left by the time he reached me. I have not failed at taming a pet yet with Bloodr and this was no exception. I fed him nice chunks of delicious meat and hearthed to Thunder Bluff to start accruing rest again.

The first thing I did when I got to TB as to open up my character screen to look at what kind of stats he has. I read in one place that someone was pissed that they waited 4 days for him to appear and he’s only got a 2.0 attack speed. So, let’s compare Humar’s stats with Catr’s stats. Catr is now level 27, while Humar is level 23.

It might look like a bit of a downgrade, but it isn’t. There are a lot of factors here that are making things not as they appear.

First, Catr has 4 levels on Humar. That is going to affect every stat except Attack Speed. Second, Catr has been fully trained with Stamina up to his level. He has training points to spare whenever I get around to leveling Bloodr enough to get trained for more skills. After all, he’s been gaining points ever since I tamed him as level 9 or 10. I can’t wait to see Humar’s stats at level 27. (He’s already as smart as Catr. Good boy.)

I think I’m going to have to rethink my play time tonight again. I’d rather see Humar level than Bloodr or Deadr. Sad, sad, I know. Let’s call it science. We have a baseline now.

Thanks for commenting Higgs. I didn’t think that those stats applied to Elites, just green bears, blue bears, dire bears, etc.

It’s not going to stop me from getting him up to Bloodr’s level, though.

The one pet that I do know of that *still* has a special ability that wasn’t nerfed is King Bangalash in STV. He apparently still has an ability called “Cobra Reflexes” which adds something like 30% to his attack speed. Don’t ever dump his training points though or the special ability is lost forever.

That I know of – the last patch did nerf all pets to being a ‘type’ – like Higgs said:

A cat is a cat – a wolf a wolf and a Ravager a rip off of Starship Troopers.

The differences that you see in the character panes might be differences caused by lower loyalty levels – in the same way that a characters power is impacted when they’re using a newly trained weapon skill.

Or I could be smoking Purple Lotus – anything is possible.
