I think I mentioned around New Year’s that I HATE New Year’s resolutions. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have goals. I have always been a goal-oriented person, and it brings a great sense of drive and accomplishment to my life to do so. Without goals, I wander around aimlessly in a rut of boredom, or at the worst, self-fulfilling selfishness with my free time. It is goals that give my life gusto and direction.
Last year, it was simple: get on my own 2 feet and get in a position to marry that woman that had held my heart for 4 years. Goal accomplished, October 21, 2006, 2 months early.
This year, there are two lives to consider with my goals, AND her goals must become my goals. I thought about this last night after getting tagged earlier in the day by Phil Gerbyshak in his post to Live Large! What things do I want us to have and what do we need to accomplish to reach those goals? That took some pondering to get my thoughts lined up for the general public’s viewing. It seems like Phil and I are in very similar life stages and our goals overlap quite a bit, but they really are my goals, too. ๐
- Grow closer to my wife. She is my support, sounding board, and my best friend. We are still adjusting to being together all the time and are off to a great start. Like all great starts, they are best followed up by sound practices.
- Get both of us into career situations that will allow us to generate the buying power to purchase a townhome or condo to be able to settle down into a permanent housing situation to begin planning a family. Our aparment is nice, but moving kids is not something we want to do.
- Get out of debt. Completely. We don’t have much at all, but we should be all the way done by the end of the year, even without a job change. Getting her in a career worthy of her Bachelor’s degree will be the icing on the cake.
- Gain another 25 pounds. WHAT!!?? Yes. I am serious. I need to hit the gym and keep drinking Boost.
- Sort out how my job, home life, and blogging all work together to create a viable living and financial situation for my family. I am a big believeer in multiple streams of income, but my second and third streams have always dried up and hurt my river, so that is an uphill battle. Yay for SOBCon 07!
I am tagging the following inspirational people: Chris Cree, Kinless, Tomas Rofkahr, Tony D. Clark, and Mike Sansone. I hope you will all participate and pass the love so we all get to know each other better.
If you are not one of those 5 people and you want to participate, please either leave your goals in a comment or permalink back to this post and we’ll get a trackback going. Let’s really build a community here.
Oh wow, we got married in the same month, the same year. I was October 13th, 2006 ๐
That’s a great idea, your goals. I should do that. Finding the time seems to be hard for me, I need to learn more time management talents.
Congratz. What a coinkiedink! We got our album about a month ago and absolutely LOVE it! The day went so fast, it’s our only record of some things, you know?
That day FLEW by!!!! The honeymoon was the best, I go back to the pictures from time to time to remember it, oh it was great.
Phew ducked the title of “Inspirational”. Goals are for people with brains an stuff. I’m lucky if I can plan my way out of a paper bag. …..oooo shiny.
Heheh me an Snow tied the knot in October as well. The 8th. Small wierdness.
That is wierd I also have a wierd wedding tale, The couple we bought our house from got married on the same day and in the same city one year before we did. I thought that was odd.
It’s…a small world after all…
Very small, I am from a very small town so things like this have happened to me before.
