Disappointing Night in Azeroth

April 11, 2007 By Gitr 8 Comments

I logged in last night to finish up the quests I had in the Charred Vale and finally accomplished that feat, minus the group/Elite quests. With that done, I was supposed to grind my way to within 3 bars of level 25. Heck no!! I hate that little hell hole of an aggo zone. I don’t think my mana ever got over 78% before another mob would wander in and start in on me all over again. If I had a nickel for every time I had to mana shield 3 times before getting another Frost Nova while running toward the basin wall, I’d be a very rich man.

I decided that was not the place to grind, so I’m messing with Joana’s plan a bit and skipping on to the next area before I’m ready because the mobs are actually 1-2 levels lower than Charred Vale and if I kill enough of them, I will be able to complete a quest without too much trouble.

I’m pretty ticked at myself for not uploading one of my best screenshots ever.

EDIT: I got it now, click the jump to see the battle unfold.

I was running along The Barrens and happened to see a Dwarf hunter, level 16, running around without his pet out. Hello…stupid? He was also running without Aspect of the Cheetah and I have 2 pieces of armor with speed bonuses and Blink…I chased after him because he was stupid enough he deserved to die. Hmmm. Level 16, Alliance, no pet, running slow, in KALIMDOR. He’s dead. /grin. Probably a gold farmer anyway.

Given my speed advantage, I caught him within range of a nice Fire Blast within a minute. I readied myself for my next action (which I was still struggling to come up with) when I hit him with my Fire Blast. BOOM! Crit! 170-something. One-shot kill. It was sad. He must have been wearing cloth armor or something, because I’m not sure 170 points should kill anyone over level 10. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.

The screenshot was is simple. It was is my combat text of Blink fading, then stating that I had killed him, and then that my Fire Blast had critted for 170 something. Now to prove that this was only one shot, notice that I was Blinking (15 second timer) and that I went through an entire 60 second Mana Shield while all of the Blinks before it are still visible.

What did you do last night?

Well I had no WoW last night, I did have a scary thing happen though my dog had a siezure and it was pretty freaky. They looks to helpless and you just want to make it stop. I picked her up and held her so she would not hurt herself but according to the internets that was the wrong thing to do. I am calling the vet today to see about getting blood work done to see if anything is wrong. I hope nothing is wrong but we will see.

Yeah it was really sad and my wife freaked out. Our dogs are like our babies so when something goes wrong its really bad. Our other dog we had to take her to the emergency vet when she was just a puppy and it was really sad and expensive. But you do what you have to for family.

Hey, if he was only level 16, you can’t rag on him for Aspect of the Cheetah, since you can’t train that until level 20. As for running without a pet, maybe he was out searching for a new one so he could train a new pet skill…

And aren’t there a couple of Alliance quests that take you to the Barrens? (I’ve no idea as I play Horde.) Clearly there is a reason I play on a PvE server, not a PvP server; I’m a softie at heart.

Sorry to hear about your dog being sick, Lance. Hope she feels better.

Darn, I thought Cheetah was much lower than that. I guess I leveled Bloodr so fast I lost track of when that trained. My first toons were on PvE as Alliance, but I don’t recall going across the waters with the exception of Darnassus and the elven areas in the North. He probably cam in through Ratchet, though I don’t know why.

So, Mr. Wooshiewhatever your name was, I’m sorry I called you stupid, but you still suck for getting one-shotted by a sub-200 spell. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m a new player — my hunter just dinged 20, so I very clearly knew when AotC showed up.

If he came in through Rachet, maybe he somehow got to Booty Bay and hopped the boat in a spirit of exploration. I know I poked my nose into BB, noted that nobody seemed very happy with me (still Neutral), and the zone itself was above my level, and headed back to the joy of Barrens Chat and bored Alliance assaulting the Crossroads.

(You are right about getting knocked over with only 200 points damage, though.)

Poor hunter was probably just looking for Humar the Pridelord.

    You big meanie!
