What Do You Think About Power-Leveling?

April 14, 2007 By Gitr 12 Comments

We’ve all seen the ads on the blogs and WoW-related sites: “Power-level your toon for $XXX 1-70 guaranteed!” How many of us have done it? /pause… I have read that it is against the EULA, but I’m not so sure it should be. While I don’t condone it, I don’t really have a problem with it.

If sites such as The Unknown Gamer level you as a brand new account or a brand new toon, I don’t see any reason why someone should be penalized. It is a game, and games are meant to be played. Here is where I got to doing “Deep Thought” (5g to the first person on BL to name that reference) on the subject of power-leveling.

Bottom line: I think it is stupid.

Counterpoint: I can see why some people would want to use it. Really.

What comes to mind right off the bat is that if I’m going to drop $40 on a game, I’m going to play it. Every minute of it. And I’m not going to pay someone else to play it for me. There are a lot of disadvantages to getting into WoW and starting as a level 60, or now 70 character, especially if this is your first go at WoW.

WoW has an incredibly complex set of world rules, just as we have the laws of physics. Crits are based some things, aggro is based on others, Agility affects players different ways, etc. The list goes on for pages. If you are a first-time player of this is your first toon with a new class, you are really robbing yourself of valuable gameplay experience by entering the world fully decked out. Chances are you are going to suck, and suck hard. Groups will hate your guts and call you a noob. Duh! You are!

On the other hand, given the money, I would totally want to have another warrior, one on BL, because I love the class. There is no way that I want to start a warrior all over again on this server. Leveling from 50-58 is disgustingly hard and I want nothing of it. I’ve got a level 60 warrior, I’ve played him over 25 days of /played time, and I know the class in every aspect of the game. Why should I bother with…all of the bother…of leveling just because I’m on a new realm? A transfer is out of the question because of faction issues on a PvP realm, so I’m stuck.

What do you say? Is it worth the risk of Blizz suspending or cancelling your account, and in which situations is it worth the risk?

Post sponsored by BNR Corp. I find this topic fascinating, but BNR prompted me to get off my butt and write a post. They agreed that this format was fine: pros and cons of power-leveling services. BNR is an American company.

Pretty much what T said, i personally would level the character myself because with my current income i couldn’t really afford to fork out for power leveling. On the other hand it’s not wiped out my social life remotely, I still fit in time to play but i just don’t play it as much.
But I agree, if you can afford to do so then fair play, especially if you just prefer end-game (Which you should, the content is far more interesting).

I would say with the exception of a warrior, you can level the same class 3 different ways. I had fun with a holy priest up to 70 and I may try a shadow to 70. I am working a pAoEladin to 70 now and loving every miute of it. Who would have thought you could battle so many different mobs a 1 time. Anyways, what you can do is try the different talent trees to level. Don’t waste your money.
