Character Transfers

April 16, 2007 By Gitr 13 Comments

From what I’ve seen from Gitr’s WoW Blog readers, we have alts. Some of us have alts everywhere. How many of those are going dead because of the pain of not being able to share items, gold, or guilds? I have 7 or 8 toons collecting dust on Kargath because of Burning Legion. These are my original toons we are talking about. Gitr for crying out loud! Lonely, sad, poor Gitr. He’s still level 60 and wearing crappy gear.

There have been some issues of ganking on BL with some pretty bored level 70s, as Kinless pointed out yesterday. Although the probability of getting attacked higher up is still the same, the ability to escape, if that is your preferred method, gets better. Add that to the decreasing number of levels someone can have on you, adds to your safety in numbers if you’re running with guildies.

Now the topic of getting Buttered Monkeys going on a PvE realm is rolling around the BM forums. $25/toon for a transfer is quite a commitment, and one that will still leave toons on BL for sure. Some of us have leveled our toons to 30, and nearly all of us are over 24. For Frostr, that is only 29 hours of commitment, but others have over 100g and some good PvP stats.

Open for discussion for all: what would lead you to pay to transfer or re-roll on a new realm? Is $25 a hinderance?

From what I understand you can’t transfer from a PvE to a PvP or vice versa I may have been misinformed though.

You can go PvP to PvE. You can go PvP to PvP, but only if you don’t have an opposite faction toon on the new server. You can only go PvE to PvE.

    More information for those curious:

    Account Restrictions:

    • Transfers between accounts can be done only if you are the subscriber on both accounts.
    • Trial accounts are not eligible to send or receive characters. To remove this restriction please upgrade to a paid account.
    • Characters may not be transferred to or from a locked, suspended, or banned account.
    • Customers with expansion accounts cannot transfer characters to a non-expansion account. The reverse is accepted.

    Standard Restrictions:

    • A character’s mailbox and auctions must be completely clear before that character can be transferred.
    • A character that is the leader of a guild may not be transferred as long as he/she remains the leader. If you wish to transfer a character that is currently a guild leader you must transfer leadership to another member or disband your guild.
    • Your character(s) can be locked at any point during the processing of the transfer. If you log into the game before the transfer is complete and create any auctions, this will cause the transfer to fail and you will have to restart it through the website.
    • If you are logged into a character before the transfer is complete, this may delay it from processing so we encourage you to stay logged out until it is done. Keep in mind that you will lose any mail that you leave in your mailbox when the process is completed.

    Character Restrictions:
Every character to be transferred has to be at least level 10.
Characters carrying too much gold are not eligible for transfer, as follows:

    • Level 10-30: 300 gold limit
    • Level 31-50: 1000 gold limit
    • Level 51+: 5000 gold limit

An individual character may only be transferred once every three months.

    Realm Restrictions:

    • Characters on a realm that is not on the Eligible Source list cannot be moved to another realm.
    • However, a character on a realm that is not listed as an eligible source can still be transferred from one account to another, as long as the character remains on the same realm (see elsewhere in this FAQ for information and restrictions on account-to-account transfers).
    • Realms listed on the Ineligible Destination list cannot receive characters from another realm.
    • However, a character on an ineligible destination realm can be transferred from one account to another and remain on the same realm (see elsewhere in this FAQ for information and restrictions on account-to-account transfers).
    • You may transfer characters from PvP to PvE realms, but transfers from PvE to PvP realms are not allowed.
    • Transfers from PvP to PvP realms are only possible if there is no faction violation. That is, if you already have a character on your desired destination PvP realm, then you will not be able to transfer any characters of the opposing faction to this realm.
    • You may only transfer characters to a realm as long as you will not exceed the maximum of ten characters per realm at your destination once the transfer is complete.
    • Realms that frequently have queues and/or regularly show a high concurrency may be taken off the list of eligible destination realms to prevent overpopulating realms through character transfers.
    • Please be aware that after logging out of World of Warcraft, a character will not be available for the paid character transfer service for up to 20 minutes.

My realm is an RP realm; how does that affect the PvP / PvE restriction?
The RP (Role-playing) tag has no effect on transfer restrictions. If your RP realm is marked as “RP-PvP,” then it counts as a PvP realm. If you are on a realm marked only as “RP,” it counts as a normal PvE realm. The standard restrictions apply.

OK my buddy tried to go PvE to PvP so that makes sense.

I see nothing wrong with switching servers with your toon. If you got the money then why not? You still have put all the time into the toon so nothing is really lost; maybe some friends on the current server but If you really are going to pay for the transfer there must be something you really dislike about the current server you are on. Face it people that play WoW, PLAY LOTS OF IT! And if your going to spend that much time on a game you really enjoy playing then I think you should be happy as possible. Last night me and my buddy started new toons on a Tortheldrin so we could be with a friend that has a 70 on the server, just because we thought we would enjoy ourselves more. GL with yalls decision!

Thanks, Xialus. One thing of note is that being as casual as we are, we don’t really play lots of it. I get about an hour or two per day, and not all at once. If I wasn’t married, it would be a no-brainer re-roll, but now that I am, it’s leaning toward xfer. Then again, I’m married. It’s not all my money anymore. I can always make an easy thing difficult. ๐Ÿ™‚

With my current financial situation I’d have to say it’s a definite impossibility. If the Monkeys do decide to reroll servers I’d be happy to start a new character there.

It’s beginning to look like a re-roll majority. I am certainly willing to do so and would like to take Deadr with me if we do. Please visit the forums to see my polls about the transfer, if it happens. They are in the guild only board.

I am totally biased in this decision, so I remove myself from the voting and will act in our best interest after the votes come in, after discussion, of course.

I was going to comment here, but it turned into a rant. Thank you Gitr for inspiring me to write and actually post something on my blog. I would not have done so….but the juces flowed and out came a decent rant I’m kinda proud of.

Well, hurry it up. I’m giving you too many hits on your blog checking for it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Blogger won’t be able to handle my mad clicking. Everyone loves a good rant. Put up a link here. Just paste the URL and it’s clickable.
