How to Transfer Your WoW Toons

April 19, 2007 By Gitr 6 Comments

You have been playing a toon long enough you don’t want to leave them behind as you move to a new server for any number of reasons; queues, spamming, old enemies, ex-significant others, etc. Almost all of us have abandoned a toon or two or ten. So, how do you move them over? Here is [tag]how to transfer your WoW toons[/tag] 101.

The process is actually pretty simple. First, [tag]Blizzard[/tag] has a bunch of rules associated with transfers, but they can mostly be boiled down into several points. Check out their official info for the most up-to-date server statuses at World of Warcraft Billing. You will need to enter in your account name and password and it will also check what realms are available for transfer at that moment.

Now for the guidelines according to the Blizz FAQ:

  • [tag]Transfers[/tag] cost $25 per toon.
  • You must not have any mail or auctions at the time of transfer.
  • There are limits to how much money is transferred.
  • Realm restrictions:
    • You may [tag]transfer characters from PvP to PvE[/tag] realms, but transfers from [tag]PvE to PvP[/tag] realms are not allowed.
    • Transfers from [tag]PvP to PvP[/tag] realms are only possible if there is no faction violation. That is, if you already have a character on your desired destination PvP realm, then you will not be able to transfer any characters of the opposing faction to this realm.
    • You may only transfer characters to a realm as long as you will not exceed the maximum of ten characters per realm at your destination once the transfer is complete.
  • Character transfers may take up to 5 days to process.
  • After logging out of World of Warcraft, no character(s) will be available for transfer for up to 20 minutes. After being offline for 20 minutes, players can begin the paid character transfer process.
  • You can transfer a toon to another account, but you must be the paid owner of that account, too.
  • You keep all of your items, bank items, and honor since the last maintenance cycle, but you will lose your guild affiliation. GM’s cannot remain a GM on a new realm. It must be re-created when everyone transfers. GM’s cannot transfer while still a GM, you must defer that status or disband the guild.

Hmmm I wonder if a xfer from BL to Telen is even allowed yet. I know some realms are off limits for xfer or are limited to xfers to specific realms. Still its not gonna to happen any time soon. Gonna need 50 Bucks to xfer the chars me an snow want to bring along.

There is a 180-day limit on new realms, and I just checked my list from 3 days ago. No, not yet. ๐Ÿ™ SHOOT! Maybe soon.

I have no way of checking the creation date here. Maybe the link Kinless gave on the forums says when it was opened.

As much as I can tell, it was released the same day as TBC…so you’ll have to wait a bit to move Deadr over.

I checked the link Kinless used, and I think it said it was released January 2nd, on that maintenance day. That puts the transfer availability around July 3rd.

Sorry about that, but I did find out that it is the only non-PvP realm with a recommended population. I thought it was funny that one of the other realms was a PvP with a 6:1 ratio of Horde to Alliance. Wouldn’t that be fun?
