Ding 14; Huntr Is in Ghostlands

April 20, 2007 By Gitr 7 Comments

Huntr got to levels 12 and 13 last night and hit 14 this morning and logged right away to get to work. The process is going pretty smoothly for starting out with absolutely no money or equipment support. The biggest adjustments are:

  • no healing potions
  • no big bags (I’ve had 3 6-slotters drop)
  • not always enough to train (that is over now)

I got Butterbanker to SM and bought a couple of things for 2s in hopes that they go for 10-12s like they should. Huntr is doing okay with money now, so I will start sending Butterbanker money after each training session.

Leveling with a hunter is certainly easier than it was with a mage, as there is positively no downtime right now. Unless I do something stupid, I also have no fear of dying, but that’s not to say I haven’t. I hate murlocs, by the way.

/played 6h 34m – see Huntr’s progress on his Journey Page to the right. Yay for Joana’s Guide. I’m following it to the T (with the possible exceptions of training out of order), so these are the results the guide gives you.

Ravekiller is well on his way to 15. Having a bit of trouble with mana use. Once i get the next level of Arcane missles it will be all good. Also looking at a respect already after an illadvised talent allocation, maybe. I switched to enchanting since the mats seem to be on an upward trend. Makes sence as more people log in they are going for the gathering professions and not the crafting ones. I do predict copper will slowly rise as people focus on leveling and forget to mine often.

You use Arcane Missiles? I read that those are the most mana inefficient spell. Is that wrong? If not, that might be your problem. I was listening to a podcast talking about the difference between leveling as a frost vs fire mage. They said that frost is the most efficient with its spells, plus it locks things down to do damage without having to eat or bandage, while fire mages do better AOE later on.

I am torn between starting another mage if I get too far ahead, or doing something else, because 25 hours of play isn’t really the best deal for transferring Frostr when it comes available. I just HATED the lower levels of mage-play. It’s terrible. I would probably roll a warlock first, because at least they get the voidwalker at level 10.

It may be inefficiat for mana. How ever the increase in difinate damage from the talents i choose. Also i like the non-interuptable attacking.

Battle sequence goes something liek this:

Frostbolt Highest available for slow and damage.
Fireball Highest or second highest depending on mana or mob level
By this time the mob is almost in melee so I

Frost nova when it is available (otherwise another frost balt for slow effect. Finished off with what ever is available…prolly fire blast.

If nova sticks i run or blink to rane and fire off arcane missles. Sometimes i Hit this after the first frost bolt depending on mib speed.

I tend to kill things with the missles before they even get close as opposed to fireballs that have such a long cast time for the actual hit, they are on me before the hit or just after if they dont die.

I prolly just need more INT gear. I dont have the money to buy like i have before so that might be where my pain is from.
Also i shun cookie cutter ways of playing….i like the animation for the misslls. They get bigger and more of them as you level it…hehehehe. Nothing like seeing 2 mages with rank 3 arcane missles attack on target….6 bolt hitting 3-4 times each over a few seconds……pricless.

I really, really love the tranquillien idea. Let people have a taste at rep rewards at a very early pace. Kudos Bliz, you nailed this one.
