Altism Must Be Related to ADD

April 27, 2007 By Gitr 10 Comments

I don’t have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and I never have. I’ve never been on medication for my attentiveness, yet I find myself participating in something that looks like the biggest case of ADD in history. I have approximately 20 toons over level 15, scattered on various realms and play-types. I am really beginning to appreciate Kinless’ definition of Altism on his blog:

Altism, defined.

Main Entry: altยทism
Pronunciation: \alt,i-zem\
Function: noun
Date: 2007

: a variable gaming condition that appears by character number five and is characterized by impairment of the ability to reach higher levels, an impairment in joining end-game content, failure to maintain normal levels of reputation and faction gain, and by an inability to be forced into stereotyped playing patterns. < “Dude, l2lvl.” “Can’t. I’ve got altism.”>

I certainly have my class preferences, but I have something over 15 for every class except Paladin and Shaman. I never cared for the utility class idea. If I’m going to do something good, I want to do it really good. Now that Pallies are doing as good or better at both tanking and healing than Warriors and Priests, respectively, I’m considering a Pally now. These videos didn’t persuade me against that idea, either.

Now to the problem: I don’t have a single 70. I haven’t made a 40 since Deadr last Thanksgiving. A 40 should take, what, a month? Two tops? Yeah, I keep rolling alts. I keep wasting time on professions. I can’t stick to one thing. I’ve got friggin’ WoWADD. It’s pissing myself off to no end!

The journey is more important then the end or the start. But what it meant to me will eventually be a memory of how I tried so hard.

    I’m sure trying…to never hit 40. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s just that I’m starting to get tired of the Belf starting area now. I’m ready to roll Orc again, just for a dreadful change of scenery, despite the advantages of not needing to reference the guide as often this time around.

I like the belf starter….I knoiw with out a doubt that when i leave that area wit a new character he WILL be 20 at least might even be 21 if I lag about and grind abit. Didn’t have that kind of certainty with the alliance starting areas. I still need to advance a Draeni out of the starting area but I’m in no hurry there. Can always go back an blast through it at my leisure.

There must be something in the water. I just deleted 12 of my alts. 12. WTF? I am left with 3 servers and characters. Yeah, it can take a while.
