Gitr just called me. He’s concerned that everyone is on vacation or jumping ship to other games. He was looking at the traffic stats recently and has noticed a drop in numbers on the site, but it’s an unusual trend going on…
For some reason, the stats per incoming activity are remaining level, as in Google isn’t crapping out, people aren’t coming via bookmarks less often, or anything odd like that. Traffic is low across the board. Yet subscriptions are on the rise. My Feedburner stats are reporting over a 20% rise in subscribers, but a 40% decrease in site visits. Strange.
Is this a new trend we are seeing? I asked a fellow blogger with very high traffic, and they said that quite a few blogs are reporting lower traffic numbers fitting this description.
I know I haven’t been posting like I used to, but that doesn’t explain the increase in subscribers. Maybe WoW is losing its appeal… finally.
Here’s my .02, I used to visit your site 3-4 times a day. You were always posting something new and it was usually interesting to my at least to take the time to read.
The last few weeks, you have gone to posting once a day most times, in the evening. So, I don’t bother coming to read except every day or 2 now. I seek my reading fix elsewhere due to lack of new content on this site.
Not complaining, merely explaining one reason you may see declining numbers?
Thanks for replying Ogga. I appreciate an honest answer like that.
So… you suspect that my traffic was multiple visits per day, but since my posting has decreased, it has increased the subscription rate? That makes perfect sense.
I guess it’s amazing how insane posting affects traffic. ๐
I personally use you site most often as a jump off point into the interwebs. Only problem is when you post a video or something. It takes ahwile for the firewall and proxy to chew it and spit it out so i can see the other stuff. Most times when there is a movie here I have to open the page, minimize, then wait a few minutes for it to stablize enough to see anything. Otherwise it crashes the browser. Stupid IE, Firewal, proxy. I want my FIREFOX!!tm. As for not coming often yeah its due to the lower postings. I know its because the gestapo at you yob decided to limit you to one red swinline stapler and stuff. Sux bawls. Thanks to one jackass too many the secure link i had with WOW Insider is now defunct and un usable. So now I cant read that again. at work. /slash wrist. As for waining WOW adiction….nope still growing strong and increasing as i get closer to my epic journey to start the chains to get the quests for gaining rep with Nether Drakes to get me an epic dragon. Whew. Im up to 4.3k g with another 500g on snows character. My estimate of getting to 5.2k g on Mindkiller at about the same time Snowstormer gets to 1k g is seeming to be right on the money. I get daily commisions for stacks of Adamantite ore plus the often awesome BOE blue drop from instances. I now need to farm up another 16 stacks of Netherweave and a dozen or so Netherweb silks for the bags.
I’ll be honest, Gitr. I enjoyed your blog a lot more before you started mentioning Joana’s speed guide in just about every posting. It’s your blog, so you can post whatever you want, but I’d enjoy hearing more about the playing experience, than measuring your /played and mentioning how damn awesome that guide is.
However, I am still reading your feed, because I am still not tired of WoW stuff.
I understand the value of the experience vs. the speed. Thanks for your honesty.
I’ll take those into consideration. I’ve been lacking in experience, quite frankly, because none of what I’m doing is new to me. I suppose I could take more time to account for my time in-game if that is what the readers want.
Is that a consensus, then, dear readers.
Many disgruntled folks have left WoW in favor of other games. LoTRO seems to be the top seller list these days (still).
Do you get stats from when your site is access via RSS? Or some sort of reader?
As far as wow, not sure what’s going on. Could be summer time is coming.
Feedburner tells you how many people are subscribed to it from the previous day. It also show feed hits, but is not indicative of actual subscribers. It tells you how time elapsed for the last 25 feed hits, too.
Good questions, Jen.
Summer vacation has pretty much begun for everyone in America under the age 23 (and some over that age, lol). I bet there are many people with a bunch of free time on their hands just beginning to awaken to the joys of 10-hour grinding sessions, and haven’t quite burnt out yet.
No not a Vacation, just way too much real life stuff to go into. I do hope for a WoW Vacation this weekend. Lance will be back, and commenting again, on Monday.
