ZOMG, I just got Ganked…

November 30, 2007 By Runnik 14 Comments

I’m not an alt kind of guy. I usually just hang out on my level 70. If I’m bored, I sit in Stormwind and chat. Never before have I leveled an alt over level 15… until this week. Awhile ago I started a Blood Elf rogue on Gorefiend, simply because my roommate did too. I got him to level 15 and that’s about it. He sat there, collecting dust on my character list for the next four months.

Then, I got an itch. I don’t know why so don’t ask but I just did. So there I was, and the levels began to fall behind me. As of right now my rogue is level 24 and questing in Hillsbrad Foothills. Now, there’s one other interesting fact before my story goes on: Gorefiend is a PvP server, the first one I’ve ever attempted. Runnik is on Silvermoon, a normal server, so I’m used to going through the whole “/pvp” thing before I get owned…

So Arcyon (my rogue), was in Hillsbrad questing. I believe I had to take out a few Hillsbrad mages or something irrelevant. when out of nowhere from behind me unstealths this red “Level 33 Rogue” demon from the horrid, flaming pits of hell. You can imagine my surprise when it dawned on me about halfway through my life: “ZOMG… I’m getting ganked…”

I try in vain to fight off this rogue but alas, he pwned me. Before I leave for the graveyard he of course emotes me with “Vipers spits on you,” before he trots away laughing at his devilish actions. I immediately search my social tab for someone to tell this to. There’s no one online from my new guild (that only has like 17 members) and there’s just one guy on my friends list who I’ve only talked to once. I know for a fact he has no clue who I am. He’s a level 70 hunter in Shadow Labs that I met through my roommate four months prior. Screw it, I gotta tell someone.

So I send him a tell saying: “Ok, let it be known: I just got ganked for the first time ever since I’ve never played on a PvP server before… just had to tell someone.”

I don’t get a reply from him, instead I get tells from level 70s in his guild that I’ve never spoken too: “Sorry you got ganked :(,”

“Sorry man, getting ganked blows,” “I’ll run you through SM sometimes to cheer you up from getting ganked,” “We’re talking about you on vent, lol.”

I reply to the last one with: “I feel like I just lost my virginity, from behind… with a Backstab…”

This guys starts rolling laughing and talking on vent with his guild about my comments on getting ganked for the first time.

So finally I release and make the trek back to recover my body. I continue my questing and just after downing three mobs at the same time because of crappy adds I turn around and there’s a red “Level ?? Priest” on a mount…. Oh crap…. The Night Elf Priest dismounts, and this douche Mind Controls me and I watch in horror as I say out loud, “Oh! Come On!!!” as Arcyon runs into a group of mobs and then the priest stops her MC and the group tears through my 17HP I had left from my last fight. ZOMG I just got ganked… again… /sigh… dangit….

Well, now I have an idea of what the whole PvP server thing is about. It’s nothing but working and working and working on quests that you may frequently die on if you’re soloing, and just before finishing it getting your butt handed to you by cross-faction characters. And that’s just at Hillsbrad, I can’t imagine what STV is going to be like! So, you can imagine how I feel about PvP servers now and how I feel about even working on leveling Arcyon from now on… You guessed it: I LOVE IT!!!! I can’t wait to level up higher. Those ganks only fueled my desire to level up and gank the heck out of other lowbies on that server. With that said, I still need to finish that quest that I’ve been trying for the last hour… I guess I’ll start there.

Thats the nature of the beast on a PvP server….Dont feel bad man, and to be honest its not always like that. Some days you can fly through quest with opposite faction /waving at you and other days you spend 2hrs logging back and forth to your main to gank them in return…now granted its not fair camping them until they leave the zone but they get the picture afterwards.

I have never lved on a non PvP server, but im pretty sure id lv faster than two cows eating hamburgers for lunch.

Keep up the good work man just think sooner or later, you get the joy of going back and ganking them for the fun of it.

If you’ve leveled up on a pvp server, then I’m sure you could probably breeze through a normal one. Especially since Patch 2.3 made it so that it takes virtually half the exp to level from 20 to 50. So far so good. Finals are here so my time will cut down, but you better believe the moment I’m out for our Christmas break Arcyon’s getting some much needed attention. ๐Ÿ™‚

The last time I got ganked playing Bloodr as a 24 on Burning Legion, it was by a big ?? hunter. Unfortunately for him, he was not a ?? of the level 70 variety. As a lowly 42 or so, he was a little plaything to Deadr flying over from Thunder Bluff as a 64. What was funniest after that was that I grouped up and cleared the area for someone else who was on the kill quest using Shadow Word: Death and Pain over and over. Death, Pain, Pain, Death. /fun

I parked Deadr there for the night so Bloodr could finish the quests, but the jerk never showed up again.

My 41 warlock started life on a pvp server, he was the first toon i created on WoW and i got him to 29 before i stopped playing him and created Firelight on the server my friend was on.

It used to really bother me getting ganked over and over again! I was close to quitting actually. Playing on an RP Server now is loads easier, and much more relaxing when you’re solo’ing…playing on a pvp server you’re continually scared of going into places where you might get ganked or corpse camped even worse!!

I mean dont get me wrong there are always times even on a rp server that you get flagged, or you forget to switch it off after you’ve had to switch it on in a party because the guy you just summoned was in a BG.

Actually that reminds me of something really funny that me and a friend did over the weekend!!

In Hellfire Peninsula, where the arrakoa dudes are in the south western part there’s a horde escort quest. Its really easy to just gank the npc but she re-spawns right away.

So i’m helping my friends 61 prot warrior with some quests, and we see 2 horde boomkins escorting the blood elf back to falcon watch..

    We’re like:
“Hey look – those boomers are doing the escort!!”
    “Oh yeah….”
This is where i start laughing maniacally!!
    “Its pay back time!!!”

One of the boomers is level 70, and the other is 61.

So i buff up, switch aura, run in BOOM she’s dead.

Now i’m really in fits of laughters, cos the boomers are just stood there!

They seemed to be just stunned!!

Cruel i know, but fair game i feel! LOL!!

They went back and restarted the escort and i helped them with the escort just cos i felt a bit bad!! ^_^

Yeah it’s so much easier to level on my normal server than the pvp one. Unless you’re in a group, it’s hell. But don’t you see Firelight, that feeling you got when you guys pwned that npc. It’s just to mess with people, to make whatever they’re doing a bit harder, and for some reason it feels so good. lol

I’d like to see a server where you can flag the other faction player IF, and only if, they are the same level or higher. Man, have I ever wanted to take out people when they steal my mob, node, rare pet, herb! They need to die and there was just no way to do it.

    @ Runnik

Yep i felt amazing!! There are times when i’m playing the game that makes me laugh out loud so hard my chest hurts after!!

We just couldnt get over the fact that the two boomers just stood there!!

    @ Gitr

Yes i totally agree with you!! When i’m herbin on my druid it really narks me when some GIT on an epic flyer beats me to every single herb node for the next 30 minutes by 2 seconds!! GRRR!!!

PVP servers are great. I started my WoW career on lightbringer (pve) with my 70 mage and a few alts then took a 5 month hiatus from the game (i know… 5 months w/o WoW. Had family issues to deal with). Then this Thanksgiving came around and I had a long break and was sitting at the computer and said the hell with it and reactivated my account. Since I had been away for so long I decided to try something new so I made a BE pally on a pvp server. Needless to say my old main is still collecting dust on the pve server and probably won’t get played again. PvP servers add a different element to the game that makes it so much more fun. All those times a rival faction member (usually hunter) would be hunting MY raptors in STV and flag them right as I was about to hit them are gone. My guild has actually dubbed Nessingways Expedition a mini BG (almost the same with SM summoning stone) because we have had some epic battles there with 15-20 of each faction facing off. Plus everything that everyone else has written is so true too ๐Ÿ™‚ So if you’ve never tried a pvp server and have always wanted to see how you would fare against that rival faction warrior that would make a rude gesture to you and then run off, definately give it shot. By the way, I didn’t think lvling took any longer really and I switched factions and had to relearn the locations of EVERYTHING. I already have a 61 pally, a 25 mage and this is with work and fam getting a BUNCH of my time.
