Exalted with Shattered Sun Offensive

August 1, 2008 By Gitr 2 Comments

Gitr has finally attained the honorable rank of Exalted and bought the epic shield, Dawnforged Defender, from the quartermaster. I had been doing dailies off and on since Patch 2.4 opened up the Isle of Qual’Danas as I continually leveled Protectr up to level 63.

I could finally smell epic shield when I hit about 3k reputation in the Revered rank, which required 21k to top off to hit Exalted. Nothing to motivate you like a good tanking shield that might take quite a while to drop while raiding, right? I mean, it’s a sure thing as long as I kept up doing my dailies to the tune of 1-2k rep per day.

I ran one Magister’s Terrace all the way through and a highly unsuccessful second run a week later that only saw us through the first 2 bosses. I even got all the way through Karazhan with my greens and blues as I equipped purples as we went last weekend (still writing that amazing post – check back Monday).

So, I bought my tabbard and decided to finish up the other quests in my log and see where they lead. I think it’s time to start doing heroics now that I have an epic mace, epic shield, and 470 defense with 2 open gem slots. 492, here I come!

First Night in Magister’s Terrace

July 25, 2008 By Gitr 3 Comments

Not to start off with any spoilers, but… Kael’thas down!

We had a gimped group, but it didn’t matter. We were effectively without crowd control with 2 warriors, 2 warlocks, and a Tree of Life druid. Pulling groups came down to figuring out who to put on what mobs, what minions to use, and what order to take them down with.

All in all, it took us just over 2 hours with 4 wipes due to a learning curve pulling the groups with the Sisters or Torment.

The highlight of the night was taking down Kael’thas with his phoenix up the whole time. We couldn’t take down the egg fast enough, so we just DoT’d Kael’thas while flying around and going berserk on him for 5 seconds before he threw us up again.

Adventures in Zangarmarsh as a Tankadin

June 20, 2008 By Gitr 1 Comment

Last night I recruited PhiLogical to help me blaze through some quests since I only had an hour to play. He’s got Phrixus up to level 67 now, and my being a 61 is still a bit low for Zangarmarsh, but that makes things fun.

So, after getting 30 Naga claws and turning it in, I got the quest to plant the seeds at the pump stations and the Elite quests to kill the mini-boss Naga. We rode along the South end of Umbrafen Lake and I ran through about 7 mobs and stopped right at the pump controls where there were another 7 or so Naga and slaves.

L2 run lolI start taking a beating and healing Phrixus’ minion, but it’s an all-out battle. The next thing I see in chat is, “run” and my heals to Phrixus came up “Out of Range.” That plea/command was followed by “L2run lol,” which is my normal joke to him for stopping to fight when we get dismounted by a daze. I keep healing myself and his minion next to me, and the mobs start dropping one by one.

Phrixus is still in bad shape and says, “u just aggroed like 10 mobs, i’m not that good yet,” to which I confidently (okay, arrogantly) quipped back, “i am.” That was at 11:01. At 11:04, he bowed to me in the midst of a hug pile of bodies and said, “ok, you kick butt / i was getting owned by them.”

Here is how to survive an all-out battle:

  • Devotion Aura for durability
  • Keep the caster back
  • Don’t aggro casters
  • Blessing of Sanctuary on tank(s)
  • Heal with Flash of Light
  • Use potions early for cooldown
  • DO NOT LOSE YOUR COOL! (it’s only a game, lol)

That is why I play a tankadin. Why do you play your class?

Protectr Dings 60, Becomes My 4th

June 6, 2008 By Gitr Leave a Comment

Ding 60 with ProtectrI never thought I’d have more than two toons at 60 when I finally got Gitr into Molton Core. I thought that would be too much work, but it really hasn’t been. Protectr, now a Holy paladin, became my 4th class to reach level 60 last night. Gitr is currently a 70 Fury/Arms warrior, Huntr is a 64 Beastmaster hunter, and Deadr is sitting right on the verge of 68 and is still happy being a Shadow priest.

What has been interesting with regard to Protectr is that I went directly from abandoning Paladr (level 50 Belf protection pally) on Velen to starting a new protection pally on Silvermoon to complement Gitr for end-game raiding. I wanted a tank and a healer, but I wanted to do the dirty work as a paladin rather than a priest.

The moment I hit 59, I re-specced him to Holy in hopes of running around with a buddy and healing his mad dps/tanking and to try to get into an early Ramparts. Neither one really happened this week, so my progress was a bit slow, especially due to the adjustment of not being able to run through thickets of mobs and wear them down to get at what I want. I’m finding myself picking and choosing one on one fights and trying to do some burst damage, only to drink far too often.

Fill us in on what you have been doing with your alts. Anyone hit 60 or 70 recently?

Flash Vulnerability for World of Warcraft

May 29, 2008 By Gitr 1 Comment

Breaking Flash vulnerability newsBlizzard is announcing via WorldofWarcraft.com site and the in-game login screen that there is a security vulnerability in some versions of Flash that affects WoW users. The upgrade was pretty quick and easy, so if you have administrator permissions, go ahead and get this taken care of before you join the thousands of hacked accounts. Here is the official word from Blizz:

A recent vulnerability has been discovered in popular web-content delivery program Adobe Flash, and it could potentially be used to target World of Warcraft players and accounts. The newest available version of Adobe Flash, version 9.0.124.0, does not contain this vulnerability, and we recommend that everyone upgrade their Flash player as soon as possible by visiting the Adobe.com download page at the link below.

In addition, to avoid exploitation of this vulnerability, we have temporarily disabled the ability to post hyperlinks in our forums. Any links will need to be copied and pasted into a browser. Weโ€™ll continue to evaluate any potential security threats and take any steps necessary to ensure a safe and fun environment.

For more information on this issue, you can read the announcements from the Adobe security team concerning the threat at the links below.

Welcome to the New Gitr Knows WoW

May 25, 2008 By Gitr 5 Comments

It was high-time for a new theme to showcase the vast content contained in over 800 posts in a logical pattern. The re-categorization is far from over, but is certainly well under way. If you are a WordPress theme-hound and love checking out new themes, this one is based on Darren Hoyt’s Mimbo Pro, just as the last version was based on his free version of Mimbo 2.

Running down the features you’ll see here:

  • The main navigation bar consists of the categories and sub-categories.
  • The lead post area contains the latest post with a big thumbnail and the last 5 posts over to the right.
  • Below that is my favorite part: our exclusive class guides to get you through those milestone questlines. Use the arrows to see all of the guides available.
  • Running down the middle of the lower area, I’ll be switching up the categories that show up to keep things fresh and stimulating.
  • And ever-important to our continued content, we are proud partners with Joana’s Horde Guide and Brian Kopp’s Alliance Guide to assist you level as fast as possible, because we all know time is VERY valuable.

Stay tuned for exciting new content from new authors and wonderous new areas of the site. Things are beginning to jump around here.

Thanks again for all of your patronage over the years.
