Ding 62, Hellow Shadow Word: Death

February 9, 2007 By Gitr 4 Comments

Deadr dinged last night after dinner and I gained 3 training skill, including the new Shadow Word: Death spell. I really like how it drops something NOW just like Gitr’s Execute, only regardless of rage. I always have mana, but Gitr didn’t always have rage.

I re-rolled Bloodr as a female BE hunter. That’s right, my first female toon. I played her this morning after finishing a couple of things with Deadr (finally finished disabling the 4 pumping stations). I got her to level 4 pretty quickly by finishing all 5 quests that I picked up at one time. I’ll kill the trees tonight and move on to the village to pick up my trades (skinning and leatherworking) and get my gold that Deadr sent.

I finished several Zangarmarsh quests last night, but I had read yesterday that if you do all of the quests and then run the instances, you will get locked out of getting reputation in the instances, whereas if you get rep from the instances all the way until that stops at Honored, you get to Revered by doing the quests.

I will likely be leveling Bloodr now to play with Kelthais when he’s on. A pally with a hunter should be a very nice combo. I chose a hunter because it is easy to solo, it was my first class, it forces you to do cooking, and I want to be a leatherworker. This time, I’m going all the way with it, too. By playing Bloodr, I will extend my enjoyment of the expansion with Deadr, but I will still play him quite a bit to make progress to be able to run the end-game stuff with the guild.

I got a nice chestpiece, belt, and boots from quest rewards, but everything is an ugly mishmash that is really hard to look at from the front. At least the cloak hides stuff from my view. Deadr certainly won’t be getting lost in a blizzard (no pun intended) any time soon.

Preparation for Entering The Slave Pens

February 8, 2007 By Gitr 8 Comments

I am going to hit 62 tonight, so I’m preparing myself for entering The Slave Pens, per guild requirements of knowing what you are getting into when entering an instance. I really enjoy the runs more now that I research them first because I know what is coming and can respond with ease instead of being caught off guard. I will be adding pictures of the instance once I go there and keep this as a long-term guide.

The Slave Pens is located in Zangarmarsh in the center of Coilfang Reservoir. It is meant for levels 62-64 and is a 5-man instance. You should bring along some crowd control races and a Shadow Priest is quite handy during the Rokmar fight when he blasts the party with an AOE lightning effect.

Do You Invert Your Mouse Controls?

February 8, 2007 By Gitr 6 Comments

I got a huge spark in my brain when I read and commented on Wilhelm’s post on the control keys we use in games, in particular the WASD movement control. I found that to be a really stimulating post about his, and thus my, gaming history.

Now for the noodle-cooking: invert mouse or no? I have, since day one, inverted the mouse for one very simple reason: flight simulators. Some of the first games, and the ones that I undoubtedly played more of than any game pre-Doom/Duke Nukem 3D, I played were flight sims. I still remember the old Amiga and hearing “Pull up, Pull up!” from the cockpit’s female warning while in a dive too close to the ground in Falcon. You move the stick back to go up, and move it up to go down. I just can’t make my brain switch in first or third person games to reverse that directional control. One More Zangarmarsh Session for 61

February 8, 2007 By Gitr 1 Comment

I got up to 95% this morning before work, but decided it was more important to go in to the office to start earning money rather than earning XP. It’s a shame, I know, but someone had to do it. I finished several quests in Zangarmarsh in about 45 minutes.

I got 8 Delicate Wings from the Umberglow Stingers, I found the scout in Dead Mire and got his report off a giant, slayed Sporebat, I returned a globe to Swamprat Post that started a quest off a giant, and I have enough unidentified plant parts for two more turn-ins.

A Look at Aldor vs Scryer Allegiance Dilemmas

February 7, 2007 By Gitr 15 Comments

Once you venture into Shattrath City, which there really isn’t any reason why you can’t make the journey at level 60, you will be presented with a choice of picking what side to ally with. If you are like I was, you will have several questions right off the bat when you get the option. I am going to attempt to clear up the muddy water.

You are directed upon finding the city to go to the city center. After that, you speak with Khadgar, who was very close to Midvh (Read more at Know Your Lore: Medivh). His summoned pet gives you a tour and history of the city, which is easy XP, even if it’s a mindless 5 minutes.

Getting back to Khadgar, he makes you chose your allegiance, either to the Scryers or Aldors.

Riding Around Outlands

February 7, 2007 By Gitr 1 Comment

I bumped up my screen resolution now that I got things running smoother using Ace2 addons. I can run 1280×960 now, just fine, so I’ll be taking more screenshots of my adventures. This is an easy post today because I’m still struggling with the database and we really need full functionality ASAP. Tough to admit that I’m having difficulty, but I’m an adult, so I can do it. 🙂
