34 isn’t that great

November 3, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

I went centaur hunting when I got home, as planned. I was in such a rush, I bit off more than I could chew a time or two. My favorite fight that I survived was taking down a level 35 with his 30 minion and accidently aggroing a 34 caster when I cast Pain on the minion to start the fight.

Later on, I got on for a bit more and decided to take the letter to Nesingwary. I got there to find a level 30 priest and a 33 priest, both Night Elves. I turned in my quest, and 2 seconds later, the 33 decided to throw a wand at me. I threw down my gloves and was making good work of him when the 30 healed him. I tried taking him down faster than the 30 was paying attention, almost succeeded, when the 30 started in attacking me, too. Deadr dead.

I rezzed by the river and started swimming away. I was immediately in combat and got to the falls and stopped to hearth. They were still following me, but had a 35 ‘lock with his minion in tow this time. I healer rezzed and went to the AH.

I got on again a while later and went to grind more centaurs for maybe 20% of the level when I encountered a 30 Dwarf Pally near Shadowprey Village. I had no intention of going to the North, but that is where that little monkey made me chase him to have my own fun. I waved, bubbled, and stood there. Off went my quarry like a jackrabbit. I cast Pain on him and started after him. Man, I wish I’d put points in chance to stun. I followed him for 4 minutes until I anticipated his turn and gained enough ground on him to cast both Pain and Corruption. Then a lizard finished off the last 15% and I got my HK for the day. I’ve got a screenshot, but I forgot to process it. I’ll put it up after work.

Archive digging: Miss Anti-guns

November 3, 2006 By Gitr 10 Comments

Since I wrote this post back in November of 2005, my readership has exploded, and many of you may have not seen this because it’s buried and didn’t have any of the original pictures in it. It came over from my Blogger.com site and I never bothered with pictures. Please enjoy and let’s get the discussion going again.

I came home and logged in Gitr to run to Desolace so I could get the SM quests that Tox told me about. I got about half-way there and got invited to SM anyway. Sure! I’ll go regardless of quests in my log. We had me, a 26 warlock, 41 hunter, 35 hunter, and a 45 pally. Totally not naming names, but what do you think the strategy should be in SM with 2 hunters, a tank, a healing/tank, and a utility? Hmmm. mmmhumm.. right. That’s what I think: hunters with their long range should pull the mobs by 1s, 2s, or 3s, and let me tank them while the pets and other go freaky on them. What usually happens is that I use my gun and pull around corners into established safe areas to finish off small clumps. So that’s what I was doing, but that’s not the beginning of the story.

Sit down and pull up a better chair. This is a great debate. (*Ayae and Sequoia especially) On the way to SM from Southshore, I had to clear a path at one point and used my gun. I see in chat, “I hate guns.” Fine. I can understand that, however, this is a game with guns. I kept silent, even as another said, “I don’t even have one. I use a bow.” Then we get in there, although separated at the time, and I went in the wrong door because I couldn’t see which one they went in. By the time I got into the right instance the whole hall, and I mean the WHOLE hall is at the beginning end attacking the group. Good Golly Molly! Challenging Shout, Thundering Clap!!! It took about 90 seconds after I got there, but we didn’t wipe. I held my tongue and didn’t chew out the one that pulled an ENTIRE hall and proceeded down the hall to shoot and pull a single target. “I hate guns,” again.
Kill. Bang!
“Stop using the gun.”
“??”
Group leader (pally), “I think you should stop using the gun.”
“Yeah, right. That’s good tactics.” I used it two more times in the courtyard before the hound master.
“STOP using the @##$@$ gun!!!” came the desperate cry.
“Gitr, please stop using the gun. Apparently they have a real problem with guns.”
We went back and forth for a couple of minutes, but in the interests of the guild and not getting kicked from the group, I complied. However the new tactic became pulling with pets, and worse yet, bodies into groups of mobs. It got messy. Screw that, if we’re pulling with bodies, it’s going to be mine so I don’t have to rip aggro off our healer and squishy. I started charging and killing as fast as I could. I didn’t care if the warlock didn’t have any mana, the anti-gun whatever. I had absolutely no sympathy or compassion over the issue at this point, because it should have been disclosed before the instance. In the last room before Doan, I didn’t use any special moves and charged in with full 100 rage. We dropped him in about 12 seconds and called it a night after doling out the drops.

So, my debate is: In an open community, should one person have the right to completly alter the tactics or style of an entire group because of a personal issue? If you have a problems with guns, are you going to play Quake or Doom? Probably not in this person’s case. In hindsight, and removed from the present situation of fighting, I can come to the understanding of one thing: if you were a victim of a violent crime or injurious accident involving a gun, I can understand the sound sending chills up your spine EVERY time you hear it. I can have compassion about that. But what are you doing playing a game with guns? Does she go around asking every hunter out there to use their axe or sword?

Needless to say, this became quite a topic in my daily discussions and I even provoked her again a day or two later:

Horde path of instances and quests

November 2, 2006 By Gitr 9 Comments

I’ve been sitting at a strange level now for some time. Level 33 is just a tad low for SM unless most of the party is in the mid-upper 30s and RFK is pretty boring. I suppose RFD is about right for me, but if my memory serves me right, most of that loot is leather and plate. I remember getting the helmet from the end boss and using that for Gitr into the mid or even upper 40s.

I have been trying to be a good boy and not use Thottbot for getting through stuff, so I’m not really going out and loot digging for what places have the best gear. I have spent some time on WoWwiki and found some loot tables for some instances, but that is about the extent to my “cheating.”

So, please help me out here…where should I go for mid-30s gear? Any Horde quests that I don’t have a clue about that would be good. I love a good piece that is not level-dependent. (I finally looked up the definition of ‘twink’ yesterday after seeing it in BGs all the time; fascinating.ร‚ย [Ed. – so ignorant])

Here are the places I am thinking I should go:

  • Razorfen Downs (as-is)
  • Scarlet Monastery (with good help)
  • Gnomeregon (as-is)
  • ZF (at 39)

I know I still really want the Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator from Thermaplugg after reading about how many levels I will want to keep it. Besides, who doesn’t want a satellite dish on their head?

My Favorite WoW Blogs

November 1, 2006 By Gitr 11 Comments

I’m sure those of you doing Google and Yahoo! searches right now are finding, good WoW blogs can be hard to find. There are tons out there where the content has stopped, it’s all videos or forum news, or the layout or grammar just plain sucks.

Let me help you out with my top 7+1 World of Warcraft blogs:

  1. Frostbolt
  2. Hogit’s Story
  3. Adventures of Aeigelus
  4. World of S4dfish
  5. Stropp’s World
  6. Tales of a WoW Addict
  7. Blessing of Kings
  1. Inner Fire

I’m sorry if I have your blog listed on my blogroll, but you’re not in the top 7. I had a hard time with a couple of them, but eventually settled on which ones I visit more, and are updated most. Everyone on my blogroll is a quality visit.

For my favorite post of the day, it’s a bit of an old one, but for those coming here for priestly things, it’s very useful: Priest mods: They’re everywhere.

70% there

November 1, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

I got some grinding done in Desolace last night. I went on a centaur rampage. I was going ape on the ones next to the flight point. I have a freelance computer visit tonight, so I will be getting home late, spending some time with K, and going to bed. Given that, I should level tomorrow night.

For some reason, my profile isn’t uploading correctly. When I did it this morning, it went into the queue, so I browsed away to other things. I checked it at work, and it still says level 32, so I give up for now. I’ll look into tomorrow.

I hope you all enjoy yet another rebuildร‚ย as I attempt to get the dotted line back between the posts without breaking the whole thing.
