Ding 53; Can’t Stop Fishing

August 12, 2007 By Gitr 9 Comments

Well, I’ve taken quite a break on leveling lately. I just couldn’t get into the “grind” of questing this week. I’ve been too busy cooking and fishing. I have been looking at Nat Pagel’s fishing rod in my bags for weeks and finally got fed up with my cooking skills to the point where I did something about it.

I’ve got my Cooking up to 285 and my Fishing up to 162. I can fish up in NE Ashzara with the right lures, so that’s cool to be able to fish where I can kill things for XP.

This morning I dinged 53 with 5d 3h 6m /played time and put my third point in MM with 3/5 Lethal Shots (thanks Excaliber).

I’m going to log in now and see about catching some rare fish for the STV Fishing Extravaganza, even though I’m not high enough skill to turn in the reward for winning. I’ll put up pictures later.

Class is out until the 28th when I take on two English courses (Technical Writing and Modern Novel) to round out my very full life. I’m waiting very impatiently for my grade to post from Thursday’s final class.

Huntr Is Cooking Things Up

August 6, 2007 By Gitr 6 Comments

Hunter started two new hobbies on Saturday: Fishing and Cooking. He already had cooking up around 140, but that was purely from stuff that dropped with recipes on hand. Saturday I went after Cooking with a vengeance.

I started out with some recipes that took Tangy Clam Meat. Unfortunately, those are most often dropped by Giant Clams, which were really hard to find, except for some of the meat in the AH. After giving up looking for more meat, I started pursuing recipes using the databases. I looked up all the recipes for stuff between 150 and 225 to get me to the Artisan Cook in Gadgetzan.

I found recipes in Grom’Gol, Hammerfall, and Booty Bay that got me enough variety to scrounge up enough meat to cook up goodies. I used Tiger Meat, Raptor Flesh, Mystery Meat, and lots of eggs of various kinds. I finally got to 225 Cooking and finished the artisan quest.

On the fishing side, I hit level 50 in Thunder Bluff and Ratchet. I think I’ll stand on the docks at Ratchet unless I find some other 50-100 place that lets me catch debris or more valuable fish. That will take some research unless one of you knows better already.

My goal was to take a break from Un’Goro and level up those skills so I can take them into Outlands and not waste all of that money-making opportunity. Alchemy comes next, though I don’t know if I have the hootspah to level up Herbalism on Hunter. Gitr got up to 300, and that was rough. It sure is raw money, though.

What did you do this weekend?

Single-Player Mode

August 3, 2007 By Gitr 9 Comments

Pursuant to my discussions with Lassira about private servers, I finally came up with an original content idea. Original, at least in that, as well-read as I am in WoW, I have yet to see this idea.

For those of us who have always played RTS, FPS, and the various FPS/strategy games like Rainbow Six, I have a desire to see the entire game. Obviously there are thousands, if not a million people willing or able to put the time into the game to get attuned, geared, and learned in the end-game instances to play them through to the end of Blizzard’s content.

What I propose is a single-player mode. You get a crew of 4, 9, or 19 computer-controlled players, just as you do when you assault the subway in Rainbow Six. That would enable someone who gets off work and eats dinner and puts the kids to bed to play for an hour per night to get somewhere. We don’t all have a bunch of guild whores that can drop everything they are doing to help us out whenever we log in, do we? You do!? You suck!

There would be no need for acquiring the loot directly, as you would need to take control of another player should your main die in combat. Bosses would drop tokens that represent a particular piece for your given class, which you would then obtain when you rez and take control of your main again.

The only thing missing at that point would be a save game feature for your progress through a long instance. Granted, instances don’t take 3-6 hours any more, but they are still longer when starting off than many people have. Even playing on private servers to experience end-game content won’t alleviate everyday time crunches.

Would you like to see a Single-Player mode? What things have I missed here? Would you consider playing on a private server just to have an instant 70 to see end-game content with a new class that you’ve never tried? Are you even remotely as busy as I am?

I love WoW as much as the next guy, so let me see it all. Sound off.

Ding 52; Huntr Is Back on “The Guide”

August 2, 2007 By Gitr 5 Comments

I hit level 52 last night while killing off massive quantities of Un’Goro critters. I just started the “Un’Goro Grind” and arrived at the FP before hearthing to TB to train up my skills. I got back on track with Joana’s Horde Guide and am back power-leveling. I hit level 51 last weekend with 4d 9h 56m and level 52 last night with 4d 14h 38m of /played time.

There is a gap there where I was crafting, auctioning, and just plain old having fun being 50 and totally unmotivated to do anything more in Tanaris involving robotic chickens, a giant tortoise, or bugs.

I upgraded my bow to a slower one, but one that packs a ton of punch, especially when I trip my BM crit-based talents.

I was remiss in mentioning that I tamed King Bangalash on Saturday, just hours before I spotted Grunter. He’s going to be a lot of work, and I haven’t decided if it is worth all of that painful leveling to have a white tiger at this point. I’ll tell you, he was a tough tame at 51 because of the adds. He got me down to about 5% and then turned on his buddies. LOL!

I have not spent the last 2 talent points yet. BRK? You out there? I’m full BM with 41 points, all the way down the tree.

Still Mad… There Are Times for a Good Faction Kill

July 31, 2007 By Gitr 7 Comments

I’ve never been as in-game mad as I was Sunday morning. I logged in to Hunter with my long-leveled best-friend cat by my side in Stonard. I ran to Blasted Lands to do some quests that I started when I ran across Grunter at 4:00am, server time.

Choice:

  • ditch pet
  • stable pet

I opted to stable Tiggr and run back. As I got back, I saw a level 49 NE Druid standing off to the side, so I quickly dropped my trap and backed up to start taming. Grunter would not go down, because the trap broke and started goring me. I had to Feign Death to regroup myself.

Just at that moment, I saw a big column of light as the stupid druid initiated combat on Grunter and proceeded to kill him. There was nothing I could do. I couldn’t tame, I couldn’t rip aggo without killing him faster, and I couldn’t kill the jerk. If this was on Burning Legion, I would have grieved this guy for an hour. I was sooooo mad it wasn’t even healthy.

I’d been looking for Grunter for at least a month. He was never around, and still isn’t. My only chance would be when the servers come back online after maintenance, but geee, I have a job!

Jerk!

When was the last time you wanted to rip the digital pixel head off someone in-game?
