I Want to go to SOBCon 07

March 30, 2007 By Gitr 6 Comments

I want to go to SOBCon 07. Who blogs passionately wouldn’t want to be in Chicago on May 11-12? The list of speakers and registered attendees is a veritable cornucopia of knowledge, wisdom, and enthusiasm for life and success. We all want to be successful and to make a difference, and this is a great investment toward that goal. A gathering of minds like this will broaden your view of the world and allow you to focus your energy on what matters to you and your readers.

I say, “Blog for yourself, but don’t forget that people are going to read it. Make it worth their while.”

Find out what matters to others and pour yourself into them. You will not be disappointed in your efforts. That is the start of success. If you love others as much as you do yourself, you will find yourself a very loved, respected, and successful person. We have seen that happen with Liz in the last couple of years, and you can see the people she has encouraged blossom into great successes in their own right.

I want to be a part of that, and I think you do, too.

———————————-

This is what I wrote to Liz Strauss from Successful Blog.com about when she asked me to attend the conference last week. She offered me a discount on the admission price because…I don’t know…I guess it’s something she senses about me and my potential. Two days later, she wrote me again and told me that she found a sponsor for me and the registration is taken care of. All I need to do is get there.

Therein lies the rub. I flat out can’t afford it at this point. I have diligently calculated the costs and what I need to raise.

My flight will cost $180 including taxes and booking fees from Tampa to Chicago and doing the bare minimum, stay at the hotel where the conference is held at the group discount of $130 + taxes, and there is a free airport shuttle. Throw in food Friday and Saturday evening, and it comes out to $350.

Is there anyone in my great readership of gamers and bloggers that would be willing to do one of two things to send me to this chance of a lifetime?

  1. Sponsor me for either the hotel, flight, or a portion of one of them. I have PayPal all set up for donations if that strikes you. Please e-mail PayPal donations to wow.gitr@gmail.com. Any extra funds that comes in will be made available for another, or possibly even a lot of sponsorships. I will pass those figures on to Liz to distribute to more people who answered the call.
  2. Buy Joana’s 1-70 guide to help both of us. I signed up for his affiliate program and would greatly appreciate getting all the sales I need by the end of Saturday 3/31.

What do you get out of this if I go? Glad you asked. I will have my digital camera with me and I will journal my time at the conference and share my blogging/social networking gems AND I will continue to critically analyze Joana’s guide for everyone on Frostr’s journey so we can have a level-by-level record.

UPDATE:

My plane ticket is now being sponsored. Thank you all for that. All that is left to enable me to attend are the hotel/dining costs.

Ding 13; Frostr Is in Ghostlands

March 29, 2007 By Gitr 3 Comments

You want proof that Joana’s guide works for other classes? Here’s your cookie. I played for exactly 3 hours since my log-off yesterday morning as 22% of level 9. Frostr is sitting at 14% of the way through level 13 with 5h 54m of /played time.

I died several times attempting Powering out Defenses and finally completed it 2-3 levels below what should be considered reasonable for a solo mage as a level 10. It took some real strategy and everything I had. First, I wanded the initial 3 to get them to come my way, and then I Frost Nova’d them in place and started to Fire Blast and wand them. By then, the next 3 had shown up, so I got their attention and started running around the rune.

I had to look up who was the quest-giver for my level 10 quest and made it work out with the other quests in the guide and finished it sometime around level 11. This morning, I completed every last quest in the starting area, Ruins of Silvermoon, and Eversong Woods and picked up all of the available quests in Tranquilien to start my Ghostlands adventures.

Frostr Gains Joana’s Horde Leveling Guide

March 28, 2007 By Gitr 14 Comments

It was an epic drop in the Blood Elf starting area. I was sitting at an hour of play and had hit level 5 with this great drop of leveling supremacy fell. It has been a great 2 hours since then.

Last night, I wiped the [tag]Ruins of Silvermoon[/tag] area completely devoid of quests. I was level 7 before I left the Ruins. I went out and about questing some more and hit level 8 in 2h 11m of /played time with all of my UI issues the first day.

I logged off this morning a good chunk into level 9 in an inn with 2h 50m of /played time and hit Honored with Silvermoon City 2-3 quests ago. I REALLY, REALLY need a wand, but other than that, I’m golden.

I’ve heard from several of you that the guide (If you are horde, I promise you it is worth the investment…as I am a firm believer in not pumping something I have not tried myself. I paid the $37 for it and am loving it.) can be a bit difficult for non-hunters, but I will be testing it with both a hunter and a mage to compare. He does identify hunter-only quests, but I have not run into any that I can’t blast my way out of yet. I can’t wait for my lvl 10 skills. My stance on power-leveling is this: I have 2 60+ toons. I want to try other classes at 60+ without taking months to do it. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything by going fast. I know the principles of the classes by already having been a raider.

My biggest problem now is figuring out what I need to skip with Bloodr because I skipped huge chain quests early on that I can’t jump in on. I may need to play catch up so I can follow it easier. It may be worth it in the end.

Making Good on a Promise

March 28, 2007 By Gitr 6 Comments

I said I would post a screenshot of my pile of bodies yesterday. Here is what I’m talking about:

I kid you not, I pulled the entire right side of the building all the way down to the man himself, General Twinbraid. I took a screenshot and forgot that I had his morning. There is a pile of bodies at the top of the stairs in his chamber that all fell in one gigantic pull. I had to pop one healing potion, but it was all Humar, bow, axe, and healing Humar. I’ll post it tonight or tomorrow in this post, I suppose. I killed the one remaining straggler, /laugh, and got the Tear, turned in, and logged in Frostr.

American Idol Predictions: Week 3 Final 10

March 28, 2007 By Gitr Leave a Comment

After watching last night’s show, I will have to be the first to admit that I was clearly wrong in guessing that Phil Stacey was going to have another mediocre night. He was outstanding and sounded just like the CD. Phil was the best male performer of the night, but he had some ground to make up.

Sanjaya pulled a “ponyhawk” hairdo with 7 ponytails sticking up in a mohawk for his blasted, sucky song. No one liked it. Simon said, “it doesn’t matter what we say about that,” referring to that stupid movement to vote for the worst singer. Just another reason to change the voting system. They will have to do that after this season if he stays on much longer.

Check out the new pad, gang! It’s new, improved and looking hot!

I’m totally swamped today, so no more posting or editing the blog or forums, but if you register, if there are any problems, I’m here. It should send me notifications, but shoot me a gmail if you encounter trouble.

The URL changed because of the database stuff, so bookmark this baby:

Open recruiting going on now. We need pure tanks and healers. We are casual, but play nearly every day and have numerous other alts and need more members to sustain a continual presence when RL and alts grab our attention.
