WoW

Really busy day

November 22, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

Today my boss, the editor, and the next person with 3 months’ seniority are all gone for early Thanksgiving weekends. That leaves me in charge. I have to do all the document sign-offs and answering work delegation questions, so I probably shouldn’t have the blog up all day.

I will answer any comments that come in, though, and will try to find some interesting things to post.

Coming Monday: Part 3 to my Leveling to 40 Guide.

The World of Warcraft site put up this awesome commercial. Who wouldn’t want to do this to our bosses?

Deadr Gets a Friend

November 22, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

I started an alt on Burning Legion last night. I decided I will need 3 toons on the server to get the professions that I want. I already have a Tauren Druid sitting at level 16. I created Maimr, a rogue and got him to level 5, started him in Tailoring and Blacksmithing in Orgrimmar.

He is going to be a pretty good twink with Deadr bankrolling him to get just high enough to provide Deadr with good gear. I know you have to hit 35 to get the skills for hitting 300, but that will be after Deadr is pretty well along into the 50s or even 60.

As soon as RPG Outfitter gets their act together and lets people get back to the site, I’ll update Deadr and Maimr.

Now taking donations of Linen, Wool, and Silk. I have plenty of ore. 🙂

The Journey to 40 Part 2: (11-20)

November 21, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

This is the stage where things get fun for the classes. You have just finished your first level with your new level 10 skills. How was it? I particularly enjoyed my level 10s as a hunter and a warlock. Nothing like getting a helping hand to fight. Killing speed explodes with them.

I’ll start with the Alliance, PvE/PvP path first. If you started in Ironforge, then you should move East to Loch Modan. There are tons of mobs along the way, including quests in the quarry and surrounding area. After you get to Loch Modan and pick up the flight point in Teldrassil, fly back to IF and drop of your stuff in the AH and go West. There are a bunch of gnomes and kill quests from dwarves to take care of outside Gnomeregan. You really aren’t high enough to fight in Wetlands yet, but I have always made the run while in Lock Modan while I’m there to pick up the flight point in Menethil.

The next step as a Northerner is to take the tram to Stormwind. There should be some quests to pick up around town, but head on out to Westfall to Sentenil Hill for the flight point and begin your Defias quests to run Deadmines. I pretty much universally finish out my teens in Westfall and Deadmines itself.

If you began around Stormwind, then around level 10, you are still doing Goldshire quests over to the East. At 10, it is time to try to kill Hogger to the west and move on into Westfall’s northern areas. There are a lot of quests there. After you get to Sentinel Hill, you can start on the Defias quests much earlier than a late-arriver from IF.

I can’t think of any real dangers in these zones for PvP servers, except for Westfall. Even on a PvE server, it was common for the Horde to wait around Moonbrook to pick off people with their PvP flags up or to kill the Defias Traitor when the Alliance were trying to finish that quest. As long as you are careful, you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting to 20 in Westfall.

I can pretty much sum up the Horde 10-20 with this: The Barrens. It is HUGE! If that gets boring, then there is some higher level stuff to do around Thunder Bluff and LOTS to do if you take the zepelin to Undercity. I spent a lot of time around Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine Forest. Your journey to 20 should expose Ratchet, SFK, Undercity, and Thunder Bluff. I’m not going into as much detail on this because all of Deadr’s experiences from level 13 on are on the blog. I kind of hit level 10 in 2 days, so there wasn’t much of a chance to blog that out. He hit level 20 on September 26th, so check out the posts just before that.

I have played 2 taurens before, and I have taken them to level 16 without going across the ocean. They spent most of their time around Thunder Bluff and made their way into The Barrens for more killing, so going to the Eastern Kingdoms is not necessary, nor are any of the areas I have mentioned a problem for PvP servers. Just stay away from Crossroads during peak hours, because that is a MAJOR Alliance party area. It’s 8pm, and someone says in IF, “Hey, let’s go to X-roads!!” At least you don’t have to land to go through the flight point anymore.

The next installment will be taking us into dangerous territory where dying will be a daily or hourly event during peak hours.

I’m Questing, Leave Me Alone

November 21, 2006 By Gitr 5 Comments

GAH!! It is so frustrating to enter a new zone to get new quests and start grinding for drops when you are low man on the totem pole. I got wanked, not quite ganked, twice last night in Badlands, just minding my own business. In both cases, the Alliance scum was riding along on their mount *hint hint, higher level* when they stopped, dismounted, and began attacking me. The hunter chased me clear across the zone before I succumed, not to her shots or pet, to lions and tigers and bears. OH MY! Actually, it was buzzards and huntresses and a lack of mana. Here are last night’s jerks:

In both cases, I had to stop killing lesser stone elementals in an attempt to get 10 stone shards. I finally got them this morning and turned it in. I know better than to try to go after the next in the quest series without some potions to help my damage. I won’t be able to take down the other elementals before I would have to put up another bubble. Another problem in Badlands is not accidently targeting and attacking Zaricoti. I made that mistake with Gitr, and I’m not going to do it with Deadr.

Another fun thing to try to do is to clear the Circle of Eastern Bindings before any of the elementals can repop. I did it without needing to sit for mana, as well.

My Boxes of Hope drive has come to an end

November 20, 2006 By Gitr 7 Comments

As promised, I made a donation to Metropolitan Ministries today for the Boxes of Hope.

Here is my PayPal account and the receipt letter:

November 20, 2006

Dear Mr. Petersen:

Your gift of $38.23 is such a blessing. Thank you for reaching out to our community’s homeless and hurting men, women and children through your support of Metropolitan Ministries.

So many people in Tampa Bay are struggling right now. Thousands of elderly people … single mothers with children … and recently laid-off or underemployed workers are facing the possibility of being homeless for the first time.

With your kindness, you have made it possible for them to access life-changing programs at the Ministries that can get them back on their feet and give them hope.

The good news is: Lives are being changed. Families are being restored.

When we work together, so much is possible. It takes ALL of us to make a difference.

Thank you again for your generosity.

Peace,

Morris E. Hintzman
President
