Happiest Minimalistic UI in the World

January 29, 2007 By Gitr 11 Comments

I have finally found a UI that I love. The best part about it to me is that it’s my own creation, not a compilation. It has all the extra information that I crave, nothing is going to get in the way of clicking mobs in instances, and I keep guild/party/raid chat separate from system messages. The party portraits are set up to appear between the chat window and player/target portraits, making for VERY easy healing.

Everything you need is right there at the bottom of the screen where all of the action is happening, casting, spell buttons, the map, buffs/debuffs, and chat. It’s quite analogous to the dashboard in a car, which was my plan.

Edit: My biggest gripe about my system now is my framerate in WoW. It’s very poor: 9-12 fps in 1024×768 mode. I really have a hard time getting enough information on the screen at that resolution to boot, so that really makes me happy about this set-up, because everything is readable at 1024×768. I took this shot at 1600×1200, but nothing was going to kill me at the moment. 🙂

The only change I have made to this since the screenshot is that I made the buff area transparent instead of translucent, so it is less obtrusive when there aren’t any buffs filling the window. Here is the list of Addons:

UI-affecting:

  • Bongos
  • CT Core
  • CT BuffMod
  • CT MailMod
  • EnhTooltip
  • Informant
  • Titan Panel
  • vBagnon
  • VisualHeal
  • X-Perl

Great addons:

  • Auctioneer
  • Igor’s Mass Auction
  • EnhTooltip
  • Informant
  • Swatter

Gear Change, Outland Greens in the AH

January 29, 2007 By Gitr Leave a Comment

Last night was my lucky night for gear. My ranged dps increased almost 30, my crit % increased 2%, and my mana went up 1000, just from gear and hitting level 57. I logged off this morning after messing around (unsuccessfully) with a quest with 2 hrs 39 min playtime on level 57 and was sitting at 42% complete. I went over 60% of a level (between 56 and 57) in under 3 hours 15 min. I need to find some more kill quests. When I get home, I’m going back to Silithus to grind the level 60 Twilight dudes for their texts and for massive XP killing 60s that I can cut through like butter.

Ding 57, Great Outland Gear, New UI

January 28, 2007 By Gitr 2 Comments

What a night! I went from 80% of 56 to 40% of 57. I updated my profile and took screenshots. Tomorrow will be some mighty good posting. It’s 11:30, so I’d better get to bed.

DPS Holy Priest Build Is Amazing

January 27, 2007 By Gitr 21 Comments

I found an article that really has my interest because of my newfound obsession with talent builds. Talent builds used to bore the crap out of me when I was a warrior. I didn’t want to go Protection because I wasn’t interested in competing with our GM for main tank duty. His gear was better and I wasn’t going to catch up any time soon. If it had STR, STA, or AGI, I wanted the piece. If the talent point said “damage” or “crit,” I wanted to spend the point.

Now that I am a priest, it seems like there are a lot more options, and even one that I had never considered before reading this article on a DPS Holy build. WoW Insider has been rocking my world recently with new in-game concepts that I was unaware of, despite my constant surfing. Maybe I should play more and surf less, but I do have a job. 🙂

WoW’s Greatest Little Items You Have Never Heard Of

January 24, 2007 By Gitr 5 Comments

Thanks to Noggaddicts’ post on Overpowered white items of epic greatness!, I have got to put my 2 cents in on these goods. I am a big fan of powerful items, and these actually turn out to be pretty cheap when you consider how much money mobs are dropping and how much the quest turn-ins are getting. I have earned over 25g with Gitr in under 5 hours of just playing. I haven’t been farming or selling on the AH. It’s all been Vendor Trashed or equipped.

Here are the items I am going to get, for sure:

Stone of Stupendous Springing Strides “A simple stone that grants the wearer the ability to bound over obstacles and across small gaps!”

What to Do About Gear at This Point?

January 24, 2007 By Gitr 6 Comments

Deadr will be able to craft/wear several pieces of armor that he has really been looking forward to getting at level 57, but with the Outlands just one level after that, would that be crazy? I picked up Tailoring with the whole intent being to craft the Truefaith Vestments and Chromatic Cloak. What do you say?

I have made a minor change to the sidebar on my template for individual pages. Please head over to either my About page or my Priest Set page to see if you like the change and think it should go on the other templates. Thanks.

Edit: Aeigelus posted his 60-70 experience today: My Journey to 70
