Ding 34; STV or Bust

October 10, 2007 By Gitr 15 Comments

Paladr went all-out last night without rest to level and get another talent point. It was a longer haul at the end, but it was worth it to get Blessing of Sanctuary and a couple more spell rankings and… a BUBBLE!!I completely forgot about the bubble while quest/grinding this morning, so I don’t know how good it works yet.

In my effort to get Paladr to 34, I really started going after some Nesingwary mastery quests that were a tad high for me, but they are totally doable because pallys rock. Last on my list was to go kill Sin’Dall for the upteenth time (Mr. Altism takes a bow). He was so easy when you get to heal by whacking, damage by being whacked, and a big heal when I wanted. I think the level 38 Shadowmaw Panthers south of Grom’Gol are tougher.

I killed a lot of Lashtail Raptors 2-3 at a time for good XP, and was wondering what your favorite grinding mobs are in STV. There are so many to choose from, and we all prefer ones that don’t flee or stun, so what will it be for you?

Amazing WoW: Post-Mortem Animation

October 9, 2007 By Gitr 9 Comments

After killing Frostmaw for the umpteenth time yesterday with my new level 33 Blood Elf paladin, I noticed something… strange. Even in death, he kept gripping and ungripping his staff. I felt like I was in a suspense movie and his corpse was going to suddenly sit up and start fighting again. For some irrational reason, I was ready for another fight; maybe they added some new content after 2.2 that I didn’t catch in the patch notes.

Good for me, he stayed dead, because the whole cave had respawned and I was severely out of mana and I sat down to drink. And. The. Hand. Kept. Moving.

Can you find or recall any other mobs that have post-mortem animation?

Ding 33; AOE Grinding at its Best

October 8, 2007 By Gitr 2 Comments

I hit level 33 last night in the Growling cave in Hillsbrad Foothills trying to get Hecular’s rod to drop and then charging it at the braziers. I was at 52% when I logged in and noticed after 20 minutes that I only had 20 minutes left for the level, with full rest through the end of the level, give or take a kill. That’s some dang good motivation to grind there. I was getting about 2% XP per group of 3 yetis and rocked out the rest of the level in a 43 minute session before bed.

With 6% Retribution, things were going pretty good. I could take on 3 like-level or +1 level yetis without any danger, plus one or two to follow if someone happened to spawn or patrol.

That all changed with another level under my belt and another 2% chance for 4 extra swings. Here’s what I did: I went after Frostmaw. I cleared out the cave, charged the rod, and then realized that I needed to kill a mountain lion again to get the carcass. I found 2 and got a carcass. Entering the empty cave, I summoned him with the bait, only to have a yeti respawn. Not good. That meant that two more were going to respawn momentarily, and much sooner than I’d prefer too.

As I was laying down the last smack on Frostmaw, a second yeti appeared behind me as I had the first one down to 56%. I started to conserve mana and just trying to beat them down and had Seal of the Crusader up to help heal. Then the third one respawned behind me and I had to bring it full force.

So… that’s a 37, 32, 32, 31. Screenshots at home… I’ll get them up.

My next point is going into Blessing of Sanctuary, not Retribution. I think I’d like the perpetual damage from multiple attackers more than extra full-force swings a little more often. 8% is darn good, and 10% can wait one more level after I get the benefit of Sanctuary.

2-manning Scarlet Monastery Graveyard

October 5, 2007 By Gitr 2 Comments

Last night Punitor and I attempted the insane: 2-manning Graveyard. We didn’t have any trouble getting through 2-3 mobs at a time, although it often took most of what I had in the way of mana and health by the end of a fight.

We hit our stride in the halls, with me trying to master aggro playing with a decked out level 37 warlock and whichever pet he had out at the time. I got a little extra help when we got to the undead section by way of my extra undead spells.

Into the crypt, we pulled more than what is considered “fun” a couple of times, but survived. And there he was: Bloodmage Thalnos.

Here is how it turned out:

He dropped a useless Bloodmage Mantle.

Major Server Issues

October 5, 2007 By Gitr 2 Comments

I am experiencing an issue on all of my blogs today that started sometime after 9pm last night. All of my permalinks broke and were no longer valid. The naming structure I had been using and getting linked and Googled on were bringing up a page of error for the whole world to see… frequently.

I discovered it this morning in horror and changed the permalink structure. If you have any direct links to my posts, please update your link. I am going to do my best to get Google on the right track this morning, but I am attending a SkillPath seminar on managing multiple projects. Let’s see how I do.

If you managed on the home page and want a head start, since I just put in the work for the Error 404 page, here are my post popular posts:

Brewfest Is Underway, and Paladr Joined In

October 4, 2007 By Gitr 5 Comments

I upped my graphics last night for some anti-aliasing 2xQ on my ancient nVidia 5500. It slowed things down to about 8 fps, but I got nicer screenshots last night and object seem to “pop” a bit more.

We went to Orgrimmar to run around doing some Brewfest festivities (I keep trying to call it “Beerfest”) and see if this new generation of festivals catches my interest more than the others. I don’t have a single item from any rep/ticket hording (pun intended).

We did the first ram run to get the deliveries from the road to Razor Hill, but I ran out of time doing the Dhrone’s Barking ram run. I got to all 4 flags and the timer ran out just outside the entrance to Org. I figured out a better path to take and should get it tonight.

For some PvP fun, as I ran out of Org, an Alliance 35 Warrior flagged me for a duel. I darn near had him several time. I swear he popped a potion because a warrior should not be able to regen health that fast. I had him down to 10% a couple of times. Dishonorable warriors are the worst.

We bought a Scarlet Belt off the AH last night and got a hankering for doing some SM runs with the guildies, even if we won’t finish it or need to fill out with a PuG. Lance, Phil? You in? I need more Scarlet gear, guys. I’m sure we can handle the Graveyard, and I think we can get a decent amount into the Armory with a main healer. I can stinking tank anything right now, as long as I can keep my health up, which is a tad hard when taking so many hits. WTB a Priest or Shaman. 🙂
