Start a successful blog, the right way

January 2, 2007 By Gitr Leave a Comment

Have you been reading blogs for a while? Did you just stumble across them? If you have any inkling to get your own, this is the way to do it. Don’t make a ton of mistakes, spending money on this and that for things that will not help your traffic, posts, or readers.

I made a lot of mistakes, and I would highly recommend learning from others’ mistakes rather than making these on your own dime. There are easy ways to get a blog off on the right foot right away, but you have to know this information and get all of your ducks in a row.

Andy Wibbels is one of the best bloggers in the blogosphere, and combined with Darren Rowse of Problogger.net have created this fantastic package. I have listened to their teleconferences, and I can attest that they will save a LOT of headaches down the road.

About Andy:

  • Veteran blogger (6 years+).
  • Author of Blogwild! A Guide for Small Business Blogging (published in N. America, UK and Poland).

    Wand of Allistarj rocks

January 1, 2007 By Gitr Leave a Comment

Last night I dropped some coin to get the Wand of Allistarj so I can start wanding sooner to get over the 5-second rule for mana regen. I took it to the Thistle-elementals in southern Tanaris this morning. It was hitting for 95-195, most of the time around 145. It is pretty sweet. I could have used it a few levels ago when I was constantily running out of mana fighting the yeti in Feralas.

I completely forgot to mention my biggest PvP achievement last week. I was on my way to Maradon to help out some people get some quests. I was getting bored waiting for a second person to arrive so we could summon using the meeting stone, so I decided to whack on the centaurs outside the instance with my mace to get my skill level up. I would just bubble every 30 seconds and keep hacking away.

After clearing the area, I got a curse or something on me, and started to see some damage points floating away from Deadr. I whipped around to see a level 51 paladin doing his best to make my life miserable. I feared the centaur and went to work on this jerk. I was level 47 at the time. Needless to say (or not, if I’m recounting it for you), he whupped me when the centaur came back to help him take down my bubble faster.

I came back to my corpse and tried it again, and died again. This time, I’d had it with this guy. I was 4 levels lower, so I was determined to humiliate him. I announced to my party that he was going down this time. This time, I hit him with the plague, vampiric touch, mind blast, mind flays, pain, and wanded to get my mana back. It took a minute or two, but I kicked his butt with 2% health remaining. Just then, my next party member arrived on scene as I was jumping up and down on his corpse in a victory dance. I am no longer afraid of anyone except higher level hunters or warlocks with their voidwalkers out.

Level 49, halfway done, mostly orange quests

December 31, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

I have entered into Un’Goro crater and am holding my own when I take it slow, and conquering when Rhone, my guildie 60 warlock escort helps out. He loves to DoT crap as I heal their hits while he runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. It works out quite nicely. 5 things drop dead, I get 1200xp, and we loot.

I’m over 40% of the way through level 49 and making good headway. I can easily kill level 53-54 things unless they resist more than 12 spells. Then I’m in trouble.

Please click Deadr’s profile to see what’s happened recently, because I have some good gear now, along with some nice tailoring recipes. I had to hold off on getting the Truefaith Vestments pattern until a little later, because it would just sit there for a couple of weeks.

PuGs Suck: 2.0; Why I hate pick up groups with a passion

    December 28, 2006 By Gitr 3 Comments

There are generally 2 kinds of PuGs that I get wrapped up in:

    1. a guild group that is only missing a healer
    2. a complete group of morons

Both of them have shown me to be quite effective in ruining my day for any number of reasons:

      • I am not gaining XP waiting around for the last moron to get to the instance.
      • When I arrive with 35 Morning Glory Dews, that had darn well last us.
      • If you don’t know how to pull, DON’T!
      • If you don’t know how to hold aggro, go back to Deadmines or SFK.
      • Forget about DPS when your healer has 20 seconds until he can fade again and is getting the crap beaten out of him by 3 mobs.
      • When you are in a group with 2 shamans, and the priest says, ‘oom,’ someone should step up and heal.
      • Don’t aggro extra mobs or make a stupid pull when a pat is coming and go, ‘ummm,’ when you die. That was on purpose.
      • If you are in a guild run and on vent with your buddies, and the priest isn’t, then you need to type what you are planning.
      • Just because a healer came for a run doesn’t mean you have his services for the entire day.
      • And the BIG ONE: Don’t pull after getting Fort and the priest has 7% mana! You WILL cause a wipe.

Deadr is halfway through level 48; attains Shadowform

        December 27, 2006 By Gitr 2 Comments

I had quite a day today. I ground in Feralas, and moved on to the Thistlegrub elementals in Tanaris. It took 2 hours for a Dew Laden Gland to drop from a Dew Collector, but I had already dinged and used my point to get Shadowform. Cool!

Then I wasted the rest of the day in Maradon, but got some nice gear. I’m getting really confident with my healing now. I can sure save the day when I have enough mana. I’m getting good at fading and figuring out who to heal when things go bad. Those that die get pissed, but “oh well,” some people aren’t worth saving when it comes to keeping everyone else alive.

I hope you enjoy the pics. I increased my anti-aliasing setting on the second screenshot to 8x.
