Crafting for now

December 7, 2006 By Gitr 9 Comments

I have mainly been crafting with my alts the last two days. Maimr is 150/150 Tailoring and 140/150 Blacksmithing. Drundeh is 150/150 Leathermaking. They both need to level to go any higher, so I will take Maimr out to play tomorrow morning.

I was able to get onto CurseGaming site to download several mods. I REALLY like vBagnon. It is way better than the old Bagnon I had before the patch. I’m not sure if it is by the same people, or if it has added features that 2.0 allows, but it rocks.

I also re-installed Bongos for my bar manager. I had been doing without since I started playing Deadr, but I wanted more screen space now that I’m comfortable with what his spells look like on the bar. I really need to get Ace2, but the server was totally bogged down, as you all might have noticed.

Aeigelus told me that he has a working copy of Auctioneer [Read more…] about Crafting for now

Domain Host Migration Complete

December 6, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

YAY!! Break out the champaigne and other fine drinks. I just tested the site by changing a file name on the new FTP site and an image disappeared as it should. The database is working, and the service seems to be a bit faster.

Thank you all for being patient yesterday.

GoDaddy.com Hosting & ServersI have switched to GoDaddy.com hosting, and now that I know what the heck I’m doing with migration, anyone who follows suit can feel free to drop me a line if you have any issues. My issue yesterday was entirely with a password generated automatically by my original WordPress installation. Once I reset that password to what I wanted, the site came back up.

Back to the Stone Ages

December 6, 2006 By Gitr 3 Comments

Remember the day you first installed WoW? It was a great day. Warcraft 3 was so graphically sublime and the gameplay rocked and the storyline was something a writer would be proud of. What more could Blizzard have in store for me now?

I read the entire manual while it installed, and was ready to pull the trigger on a hunter, no pun intended. I looked at all the race/sex options I had, and decided to go with a male dwarf. Wait! He is going to have whatever name I give him forever. It was not something to make a snap decision about, so I Googled for Celtic and Norse male names and came across Grimr. I liked it, a lot.

My first 2 hours were the most intuitive, creative, and rewarding gaming experience I had ever had. I made it to level 5 or 6, had killed nearly everything in the noob area, and was running through the countryside with no idea where I was going.

I played with the game as it was out of the box for about 2 weeks until one co-worker asked me what UI mods I had installed so far. Mods? What mods? [Read more…] about Back to the Stone Ages

Hosting Transfer – Ongoing Problems

December 5, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

I am migrating to a new host as I type and have been having issues all day. I was offline for about 5 hours as I stuggled with the SQL database. What ended up being the issue was the host-installed version of WordPress that I started with created an auto password, so when I tried to re-configure the config file when things didn’t migrate, they didn’t connect again.

I only have until the 9th, so I hope things get ironed out tomorrow. Thanks for being patient.

PS. The realms are still down. Check out the server status page above.

Patch Day – 2.0.1

December 5, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

I got up early enough for the patch to get installed before work so I can begin playing when I get home. I started reading the Looking for Group information while it patched:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/lookingforgroup.html

Then it failed at 54% with an error about not being able to patch a file. CRAP!! I tried again quickly, but it looks like I get to do a complete re-install tonight and re-patch everything.

The patch failed because I did not have 3.8GB free on that hard drive. I deleted some stuff and it worked on the first try after that. It did not take up all that space when it was done, so it must be a decompression thing.

Daedalus Project’s New Results – Addiction

December 4, 2006 By Gitr Leave a Comment

I have more information to spread about the state of addiction in the MMORPG community. It is a topic close to me after seeing it in a former roommate. The impact of a seemingly uncontrollable need to play a game for any number of reasons is vastly interesting to me, as well ad incomprehensibly deep. Nick Yee has a project going on at Stanford University that involves dozens of surveys of MMORPG players of all types: The Daedalus Project.

His latest survey results have a lot of good information in there that kept me busy reading for quite a while. The Trouble with “Addiction”

I’ll have some of my insights into his results tomorrow, but it is time to clock out now. 🙂

Ed.: Due to migration issues, there was no time to put down my thoughts. Don’t worry, they are coming as soon as my hosting situation is settled.
