Ways to Handle Beggars

March 3, 2007 By Gitr 10 Comments

I figured out a brilliant (IMHO) way to get rid of a beggar in a major city. I was crafting at the time when a level 13 rogue came up to me and asked if I could spare some change. I waiting until I was done crafting, /sat, and /afk’d. LOL. It took him about 2 seconds to turn away and run to the next 60+ to ask for money.

I relayed this incident to my wife, and she was astonished that “there are bums in WoW.” She doesn’t get it. Along the lines with people paying to get power leveled while they are at work, she doesn’t understand why someone would play to not play. If you are playing, why would you not want to get your own stuff? Her best quote was, “it’s not like they are homeless, right?” I followed that up with, “and I’ll bet their fingers aren’t broken.”

What do you do when you get a whisper and they are standing right there watching you?

If they are persistent, I put them on ignore, and tell them, usually by emoting it.

It doesn’t always work though. I once had a beggar follow me across two continents all the time under-bidding the amount of his request. By the time I had got to Darkshore he was down to 10 copper.

Depending on my mood, I might give one copper. I always comment – go kill stuff, like everyone else. I should just make that as a macro.

Depends on how much they ask. If it’s like 10S they want I make them dance, bow, worship, love, lick, kiss … me. If they play along I usually throw them a bone :p.
    Yea, I’m a sick bastard …

I have been known to drop a gold on some one asking for a few silver. I make so much money, the occaisional /give out doesnt impact my game play. Kinda goes with the image of my guild. People know us as people with integrity and Honor. Honor is our guild name. If the guy is obnoxiuos with the spamming all over, no dice. Politness counts for alot. If I’m asked politly in /w with out the publik spam, I’m more likly to spare a few.

Sorry folks I am with the husband on this one. I make NO WHERE near as much money as him but I am a firm believer in karma. I have been given things for nothing enough times to know that when I have it give it, cuz if I need it I will prolly get it.

But the whole getting them to beg and lick me…now that is a concept I have yet to take advantage of. I will be looking into that the next time I get a chance.

Who wants to beg me for money?!?!?

In that it could be a young person, new gamer or gold farmer (yes you can make a lot begging). I generally explain that beging for $ is a quick way to be ignored and may make your gaming experiance difficult in the future. If they respond in earnest then I will generally set them to task. IE.. get me 5 broken boar tusks. If they are willing to go to the trouble to do that I’d be willing to give them some money as they are willing to do something for something. However, If they respond to the likes of ” yes, 1g plz” I simply ignore their whispers not /ignore mind you.
